Previously in Uncanny Avengers: Captain America has assembled Monet, Psylocke, Deadpool, Quicksilver, Rogue, and Black Widow, forming the Avengers Unity Squad. He has also sought Ben Ulrich’s help in exposing Orchis. However, Captain Krakoa, revived by Orchis, has established a Mutant Liberation Front and stolen a nuclear weapon.
Uncanny Avengers #3 unveils three distinct storylines. Firstly, Captain America delivers a passionate speech advocating acceptance of diversity, connecting it to race, sexual preference, and other aspects. This rhetoric begins to sway public opinion, fostering an understanding that their animosity may be misplaced. Meanwhile, Monet and Quicksilver pursue a lead; Monet detects the perfume scent on the Fenris twins, leading them to a high-end store. An altercation ensues when they unexpectedly encounter the twins shopping. Despite the twins’ attempt to demolish the building, Quicksilver’s speed enables him to repair the structure. As they allow the twins to escape, Quicksilver reveals he has placed trackers on them, leading to a shared kiss.
Simultaneously, Captain America and Ben Ulrich meet with the human witness of the Hellfire Massacre, who turns out to be Wilson Fisk!
Captain America’s speech fulfills expectations for this series, offering a much-desired passionate statement capable of influencing public opinion. Uncanny Avengers #3 effectively leverages the characters’ strengths while integrating the themes of Captain America and the X-Men. This unity rhetoric is something I’d like to see more of in future issues. The steamy action between Quicksilver and Monet, while possibly somewhat disposable, injects a needed sense of levity into the narrative, especially with the addition of Wilson Fisk into the mix.
The artwork is stunning, notably more detailed than many other X-books currently released, showcasing commendable work in both linework and colors.
Uncanny Avengers #3 impresses with its management of team dynamics, which can often be hit or miss in these team-up books. This issue is unquestionably a hit. Therefore, this book earns a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars!
