Previously in X-Men Red: The people of Arakko tried to make Mars their new home after terraforming it. However, it’s been far from smooth sailing. The scars of war still haunt many, and the Great Ring aims to teach them new ways of living. But now, things have taken a dark turn as Genesis returns to Arakko, wielding the powerful Staff of Annihilation. She pursues Jon Ironfire, who carries the Ivory Blade, and is sent to warn Arakko about the fall of the White Sword.

    NEVER HEALING

In X-Men Red #13, the focus is on the Great Ring and Jon Ironfire’s desperate plea for help. However, their meeting is interrupted by Genesis. Adding to the chaos, some group members are influenced by the dark whispers of the Staff of Annihilation, leading them to align with Genesis. Sobunar, in particular, criticizes the new ways and deems the new council weak. Storm and Kobak step up to defend Arakko against Genesis, but Jon tries to take matters into his own hands and confront her directly. Unfortunately, he’s not strong enough, and Genesis successfully snatches the Ivory Blade, Purity, from him. Ultimately, Lactuca teleports the group to safety, sparking tension among Arakko’s inhabitants and hinting at the possibility of a civil war.

    ANOTHER CIVIL WAR

When it comes to X-Men stories, I always think about the classic clash between Xavier and Magneto, with their differing views on mutant acceptance. Reading X-Men Red #13 made me nostalgic as it brought back those original storylines. It’s amusing because the main X-Men storylines are preoccupied with Krakoa’s nation-building adventures. Considering that, I thoroughly enjoyed this comic. The tension among the characters is captivating, and even though I might not know every single personality within the Great Ring, there’s a promise of depth and intriguing character arcs. X-Men Red’s unique perspective, with the Arakko mutants taking center stage, adds a refreshing twist to the familiar themes. This particular issue may feel like an exposition for the upcoming story arc, but it was still a delightful read.

    BOTTOM LINE: GREAT READ

X-Men Red #13 delivers a great storyline with consistent art and engaging character designs. Personally, the storylines resonate with me, making it a remarkable comic with loads of potential. I’d give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars, and I’m looking forward to picking up the next issue to see where the Arakko saga takes us!
