Previously in Immortal X-Men: The Sins of Sinister timeline has been reset, and the danger of that future is on everyone’s mind. Professor X, Emma Frost, Exodus, and Hope carry the Sinister gene, and Mother Righteous and Rasputin IV know the exact specifics of that dangerous future.

Immortal X-Men #11 shows Storm and Rasputin IV leading the infected council members to Forge, who has a cure. The Sinister gene is partially in this reality and another one, making it harder to track. By excising the loop, the gene gets shifted to the current reality. Professor X wants to get back to business. Still, Storm received a video showing all their atrocities in the Sins of Sinister storyline. The four will rejoin the Quiet Council but will not get a vote. This will keep a unified appearance but guarantee Sinister’s influence has been eradicated.

In the alternative timeline, Exodus kills Hope, leading to a brawl between this current version and Hope to beat up Exodus. Mother Righteous gives Mystique a recording of Destiny that incriminates her. And Storm realizes she can’t be on the Great Ring of Arakko and the Quiet Council. After some choices, words, and thoughts, Storm leaves for Arakko. She then returns to give her voting capabilities to Colossus if she is not there for any significant event.

Throughout Immortal X-Men #11, I was struck by how angry Storm sounded to everyone. The kind thoughts she did have were overshadowed by her inner monologue about the corruption of most people. After such a complicated Sins of Sinister event, it was nice to have a comic where a mutant was just reacting to a situation. Throughout the comic, we see a bunch of different reactions, from remorse to acceptance and greed. But Storm, being viewed as the hero in the alternative timeline, gives her a unique position outside the Council. In fact, it gives her a moral high ground. Watching her come to terms with that and her many government tasks was engaging. However, this book didn’t really push the plot forward and instead increased X-Men hostilities with a brief look at Madame Righteous, which makes this a hard starting place for new listeners.

The art was a standard affair for Marvel, and I don’t have any complaints. The view of Storm interjecting between Hope and Exodus shows how dynamic Storm’s powers are, even against powerful mutants. Good work by the creative team.

I enjoy the X-Men Immortal series. Looking into the zeitgeist of the mutants shows us the weakness of their psyche and personality. At least there aren’t any legal consequences, but I needed a little more of a hook to sync myself up for the next recording session. X-Men Immortal #11 is a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
