Previously in My Little Pony: Sunny Starscout and her friends have brought back magic to Equestria. Now Earth Ponies, Unicorns, and Pegasus are working together to live in harmony. A SAD FRIEND
My Little Pony #8 starts with Izzy feeling lonely. As one of the few unicorns in Maretime Bay and relies on her friendship with Sunny. However, Sunny is zooming everyone to try and keep the peace and, most recently, trying to learn how to fly from Zipp and Pipp. Izzy, who wants to find a way to connect with her friend, decides to take over the smoothie cart and revamp it. She goes a little crazy and develops recipes based on people’s sparkle. When Sunny returns, she is a little surprised about the changes as the old cart and recipes remind her of her father. However, Sunny realizes how sad Izzy is and combines the old stuff with the new. They even came up with a new recipe called The Dreamy Creamy Peanut Butter Starbow! Now they remember to always make time for their friends.
A VALID LESSON
As an adult reading a kid’s comic, I always want them to continue with the primary plot points. I read this comic title with my daughter, who has a unique perspective as she is obsessed with this IP. From her perspective, My Little Pony #8 was relatable. She remembers what we used to do before she started elementary school. She remembers things that happened before her brother was born. So when my 5-year-old has a profound connection to the story, I realize I need to step back and let her words act as a review. Because I could complain about the art style or the narrative plot and complement the story’s overall message. But I think that pales in comparison to the words of my daughter. Great work by the creative team.
BOTTOM LINE: BEST FOR A CHILD’S PERSPECTIVE
My daughter loves everything about My Little Pony, and I know way too much about the fandom. But I am happy she is interested in a show that teaches engaging lessons in an accessible way. With that in mind, My Little Pony #8 is a well-deserved 4 out of 5 stars.
