    DEVIL’S REIGN: SUPERIOR FOUR #3 (OF 3)

    Writer: Zac Thompson
    Artist: Davide Tinto
    Colorist: Matt Milla
    Letterer: VC’s Ariana Maher
    Editor: Annalise Bissa
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
    Release Date: March 9th, 2022

Previously in Superior Four: Wilson Fisk and his Thunderbolts have taken over the Baxter Building after he arrested half of the Fantastic Four. Fisk then gave the headquarters to Otto Octavius, who summoned three different versions of himself and formed the Superior Four. After traveling the multiverse and killing the Spider-Ock, the quartet finds themselves fighting against the Supreme Ock, who won over the loyalty of Otto’s allies. Doc Ock is now imprisoned with no hope to escape.

    FINDING ANOTHER OTTO

Devil’s Reign: Superior Four #3 starts with Otto being freed by a plant-based creature who has the consciousness of another Otto. Bonding with the plant, he develops four plant-like arms and the plant’s knowledge. Meanwhile, Supreme Ock talks to the rest of the Superior Four and shows how dangerous they are. He then attempts to “reset” them. Doc Ock shows up to save them, and the Superior Four, reunited, kills Supreme-Ock and uses his knowledge to escape back to Earth-616.

Back home, Otto promises to help his Superior Four. In return, they will help him completely stop crime. He also sends his new plant friend to Earth-2902 to take on the form of an intriguing plant-based Spider-Man!

    FUN

Devil’s Reign: Superior Four #3 is a fun little comic. It features superb, engaging character concepts and shows them in action. What it lacks is the depth of plot and character. There was a ton of potential to take Otto and make him more well-rounded for the Devil’s Reign event. But we didn’t get that in favor of exploring the different versions of Otto. Which is a fair decision by the creative team. Not all comics need to have the depth that I want. Sometimes you just need to see a six-armed Hulk battling a weird Doctor Doom-type villain.

BOTTOM LINE: NOT A BAD ENDING

I really enjoyed the character design of Devil’s Reign: Superior Four #3. Watching characters like Wolverine and Ghost Rider get the 8-limb treatment is engaging on the page. Check out this comic if you want an easy and fun read to escape into. Superior Four #3 is a 3.5 out of 5 stars from me.
