As a general rule, I’m not one of the people to whom a birthday is sacrosanct, but as I age, I find myself taking more care on the day of my birth, December 17th. This year, I cashed in a whole week’s vacation and stayed home to do pretty much nothing. Of course, given how stressful 2021 has been, that may not have had much to do with the birthday, but either way, there are a few hard-and-fast birthday rules in my house. My wife insists that birthdays must have cake, even if they’re not being celebrated officially on the given day, while the proximity to the holidays means NO double-gifting, leading to today’s natal query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) prefers that there be separate wrapping paper for the birthday gifts and Chrimmus gifts, asking: What birthday rules do you observe in your household?

I just wish that they would remember that it was my birthday.
With a birthday at the end of November, the only real ‘rule’ is that, despite Thanksgiving being in the rearview, Christmas decorations can’t go up until after my birthday.
