Major Spoilers Question of the Day: Overexposed Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonNovember 15, 20214 Comments1 Min Read

One of the phrases that I keep running into as a comic fan on the internet is “overexposed.”  Frankly, I don’t like it.  If people are interested in buying material featuring a character, then naturally the comic companies should lean into that.  That’s not to say that I’m not annoyed by eleven monthly Bat-titles and no Legion of Super-Heroes, nor should we try to force Green Lantern, for instance, to be Deadpool in a monthly title.  I’m from an older time, you see, a time when everything in comics boiled down to the most critical question of them all: “Who’d win?”  To that end, we have today’s fatal four-way query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) also hates when people say superhumans are overpowered, a ridiculous argument in a medium that launched from Superman, asking: Batman, Deadpool, Wolverine and Harley Quinn walk into a bar…  Who walks out?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

Wolverine walks out, because it isn’t worth the trouble. Batman stays because villains must be served justice, Harley Quinn stays for the fun of the brawl, and Deadpool stays to commentate.

Everybody else in the bar with any brains, cuz it’s gonna get nasty in there pretty soon.
Unless of course the bar is called Mundens, in which case they will stay cuz no one in there right mind would have any kind of fight in that bar.

I suppose Batman walk out because he doesn’t drink, and the other three stay behind to get blitzed and make fun of Bruce behind his back.

Deadpool walks out, carrying Harley to after hours date while Wolverine finishes his 30th pint telling how tough being a mutant is to brooding Batman, who didn’t order anthing, bub.
