Major Spoilers Staff Picks for August 4, 2021 #NCBD

Robot OverlordBy Robot OverlordAugust 4, 2021Updated:August 4, 20215 Mins Read

IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

    Crush and Lobo #3
You can purchase this issue via the comiXology affiliate link

    CRUSH & LOBO #3
    Writer: Mariko Tamaki
    Artist: Amancay Nahuelpan
    Publisher: DC Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: What’s a girl supposed to say when she finally comes face to face with her murderous father in space prison? Crush better hurry up and figure it out, because all Lobo wants to talk about is…his feelings? Gross! But maybe the Main Man really did change his stripes. Maybe group therapy with the other inmates really worked. Maybe this isn’t all just some elaborate ploy Crush hasn’t quite figured out yet—
Aw, c’mon. You’re not actually buying this therapy crap, are you?

MATTHEW: Aaah, father/daughter bonding. This is remarkably good stuff.

    Elvira meets Vincent Price #1
You can purchase this issue via the comiXology affiliate link

    ELVIRA MEETS VINCENT PRICE #1
    Writer: David Avallone
    Artist: Juan Samu
    Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The two titans of horror and comedy untie in comics for the very first time! Dynamite Entertainment Proudly Presents… Elvira Meets Vincent Price!
Elvira is back, with her most historic AND greatest costar ever! The ghost of Vincent Price is a spirit with a mission, and only the Mistress of the Dark can help! The Apocalypse is coming, and it’s going to be live-streamed for binge-watching, but a long-lost movie can save the world… if only the movie star specter and the horror hostess with the mostest can find it in time! Thrills, chills, and all sorts of terrible puns!

MATTHEW: The only way I’d be more psyched about this is if Vincent were to come back and do it for real.

    The Good Asian #4
You can purchase this issue via the comiXology affiliate link

    THE GOOD ASIAN #4
    Writer: Pornsak Pichetshote
    Artist: Alexandre Tefenkgi
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Hark suffers a devastating blow as Chinatown’s Hui Long killer hits closer to home, leading Hark to begin peeling back the layers of his family’s chilling secrets.

CHRISTOPHER: The Good Asian has tackled a topic that is close to my heart and I’m ecstatic to see how they will explore these ideas.

INGRID: This is a brilliant book. It is as gritty as you would expect of a noir tale, and indeed the body count is rising gradually. The characters have well-defined motivations, even when we haven’t learned yet what they are. Life may not be easy in Edison Hark’s knife-edge of a world, but it sure continues to be interesting.

STEPHEN: Such a great series. Every issue has been a real treat, and if this doesn’t win all the awards then we know the system is rigged.

The Me You Love In The Dark
You can purchase this issue via the comiXology affiliate link

THE ME YOU LOVE IN THE DARK #1
    Writer: Skottie Young
    Artist: Jorge Corona
    Publisher: Image Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Writer SKOTTIE YOUNG (I HATE FAIRYLAND, Deadpool, Strange Academy) and artist JORGE CORONA (NO. 1 WITH A BULLET, Super Sons, Feathers) follow up their critically acclaimed series MIDDLEWEST with a brand-new haunting tale. An artist named Ro retreats from the grind of the city to an old house in a small town to find solace and inspiration without realizing the muse within is not what she expected. Fans of Stephen King and Neil Gaiman will enjoy this beautiful, dark, and disturbing story of discovery, love, and terror.

INGRID: Maybe it is just the intriguing title, but the idea of this book fascinates me. I think a lot of us can identify with the idea of an artist who has trouble finding inspiration, and that seems like a terrific starting point. Throw in love and terror, and I am seriously looking forward to this one.

STEPHEN: Definitely a recommended read this week. If you only know Skottie Young for his funny bits, I think you’re going to be in for a surprise.

    X-Men #2
You can purchase this issue via the comiXology affiliate link

    X-MEN #2
    Writer: Gerry Duggan
    Artist: Pepe Larraz
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: As threats hurtle toward the Earth from all sides, the fearless X-Men fight a seemingly unstoppable wave of annihilation…but even more dangerous threats lurk in the darkness, ready to strike in secret.

CHRISTOPHER: It has been great seeing the X-Men return to New York and I’m excited to see where they are going to take this title.

MATTHEW: I’m a bit surprised how much I enjoyed issue #1 of this new X-Men title, and I’m looking forward to more of this team. It’s good to see Rogue back in her leather jacket, too.

ROBOT OVERLORD: Forgive your enemies, but never forget them.
