The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
THE AUTUMNAL #6
Writer: Daniel Kraus
Artist: Chris Shehan
Publisher: Vault Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: After stealing a trove of local lore, Kat begins barricading her house against the Comfort Notch threat. But nature itself seems hell-bent on tearing her family apart.
INGRID: No! This is a horror story! Kat, don’t barricade yourself in the house! On the other hand, if the supernatural threat is in the leaves themselves, maybe this is one time this is the safest choice. Whatever it is, we know it’s coming for Kat and Sybil. The tension is really building, and it’s a terrific read.
BATMAN: THE DETECTIVE #1
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Andy Kubert
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: An epic tale begins that will take Batman on a harrowing, action-packed European adventure in a new miniseries by superstar creators Tom Taylor and Andy Kubert! A horrific tragedy in the United Kingdom sends a very personal and deadly message to the Dark Knight—one that will draw Batman out of Gotham City to investigate! From the moment he lands in Europe, Batman will face a difficult investigation and unheard-of adversaries and find the assistance of a partner once more—all in the hunt for the villain known as Equilibrium! New villains! New allies! A thrilling overseas adventure begins for the Dark Knight!
STEPHEN: A new Batman series you say? I think this could be really interesting, as we haven’t seen Batman on a European tour in quite some time.
CANTO & THE CITY OF GIANTS
Writer: David M. Booher
Artist: Sebastian Priz
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Canto has surprised, delighted, and moved readers with tales of the clockwork hero-fighting for love, his people, and hope! In this special Canto series, our titular hero reunites with the Giant Guardians of Dis, Fra and Ba, as well as other friends and foes, to recruit the kingdom of Giants to his quest to defeat the Shrouded Man. Canto co-creator David M. Booher and artist Sebastián Piriz (Headspace, Disaster Inc.) bridge Canto II: The Hollow Men and the upcoming Canto III!
CHRISTOPHER: By far one of my favorite series that is being published. Now I get to see small Canto go up against a bunch of giants!
DARKHAWK: HEART OF THE HAWK #1
Writer: Various
Artist: Various
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ’90s hottest hero in three spectacular stories!

• Then explore the winged hero’s cosmic years by Dan Abnett and Andrea Di Vito.
• Finally, find out what the future holds for Darkhawk by Kyle Higgins and more!
MATTHEW: It’s the 30th anniversary of Darkhawk! Please excuse me while I crumble away to dust. Hopefully, I’ll get to read this comic before I blow away in the Kansas winds…
DOCTOR WHO MISSY #1
Writer: Jody Houser
Artist: Roberta Ingranata
Publisher: Titan Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: On the 50 anniversary of the debut of the Doctor’s deadliest adversary, Missy wages war on the Third and Twelfth Doctors! Can they stop her from executing her lethal plot?
INGRID: I always enjoyed Doctor Who stories with the Master, back in the day. Missy is a delightful take on the character. I love a clever, scheming kind of villain (or villainess, as the case may be), and this has the potential for some truly wicked fun!
HOME #1 (OF 5)
Writer: Julio Anta
Artist: Anna Wieszcyk
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: When a young boy is torn away from his mother while seeking asylum at the U.S. border, something begins to change in him, and it isn’t just the trauma, anxiety, and guilt you’d expect. He doesn’t know it yet, but it’s the onset of superhuman abilities that will change his life forever.
JULIO ANTA and ANNA WIESZCZYK debut with a deeply grounded and heartfelt five-issue series that explores the real-world implications of a migrant with extraordinary powers.
CHRISTOPHER: I am always interested in new creative teams and difficult to swallow storylines.
JENNY ZERO #1
Writer: Dave Dwonch, Brockton McKinney
Artist: Magenta King
Publisher: DARK HORSE COMICS
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Meet Jenny Tetsuo, the hard drinkin’, hard partyin’ daughter of beloved superhero, Mega Commander Zero. After washing out as the military’s top kaiju killer, “Jenny Zero” now lives the celebutante life with her hotel heiress and publicist best friend, Dana Sheraton. But when the massive creatures return, Jenny must decide if she can sober up and save the world!
From Dave Dwonch (Cyrus Perkins and the Haunted Taxi Cab, Mind Palace), Brock McKinney (MAD Magazine, Full Moon Deadly Ten films) and superstar in the making, Magenta King comes a new hero for a new decade!
MATTHEW: I’m a sucker for a genre-bending series, and I hope this one takes full advantage of kaiju movie tropes and the “burned out hero makes good” them.
LOCKE & KEY SANDMAN HELL & GONE #1
Writer: Joe Hill, Neil Gaiman
Artist: Gabriel Rodriguez
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $6.99
SOLICITATION: If you think you can unlock the gates of Hell and just invite yourself in, you must be Dreaming!
The epic crossover between two of the most beloved fantasy universes in comics begins here. John “Jack” Locke is ten years dead, but that hasn’t stopped him from posting the occasional letter home… from Hell. Now Mary Locke will do anything to save her brother’s soul, including cut a deal with Roderick Burgess-the most evil man in England-to search for answers in the House of Mystery and risk the walking nightmare known as the Corinthian to find help in a disintegrating Kingdom of Dreams!
STEPHEN: Locke and Key is one of my all time favorites, and seeing it crossover with the Sandman Universe is like the cherry on top. Can’t wait to share my thoughts with you on this one!
MIGHTY MORPHIN’ #6
Writer: Ryan Parrott
Artist: Marco Renna
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Still reeling from the revelation of the New Green Ranger’s true identity, the New Mighty Morphin team must join with former Ranger Grace Sterling to save Angel Grove from a new threat tied to Zordon’s surprising past. But nothing could prepare the Rangers for the two people who stand in their way…
MATTHEW: Parrott’s Power Rangers books are almost as laden with continuity as the series itself, but they’re exciting reads, and the reveal of the new Green Ranger’s identity sets up all sorts of new interactions and conflicts. I’m going to be reading the heck out of this one.
YOUNG HELLBOY THE HIDDEN LAND #3
Writer: Mike Mignola, Thomas Sniegoski
Artist: Craig Rousseau
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Hellboy, the Professor, Scarlett, and the Ohnar are all in danger when an ancient evil awakes. The vampire Vesperra and her undead legions are too powerful for Hellboy and his companions to face alone, but Scarlett has an ace up her sleeve that will give them a fighting chance.
STEPHEN: This is a fun series, and I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it. Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land #3 is definitely a must read.
ROBOT OVERLORD: Hidden in a valley beside an open stream- This will be the type of place where you will find your dream.
