Thanks in part to the lack of new programming in the fall season, I’ve been able to enjoy several episodes of ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ per week for most of 2020. I’ve long been a fan of the show, dating all the way back to the days of the Comedy Channel and Clive Anderson, but as a high school forensics kid who lettered in improv, I’m always down for some made up funny. ‘Whose Line’ is one of the only remaining improvisory shows on TV, but we’ll always have The Janitor from ‘Scrubs’, who reportedly often had scripts that just said “whatever Neil makes up here”, leading to today’s unscripted query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still idolizes Mike McShane, one of the only celebrities I’ve been told I resemble, asking: Improv: Yea or Nay?

Nay, I guess. Haven’t seen enough to remember any actor, its probably a cultural thing, like variety shows and musical theater. Never saw many of those.
“Yea.” I enjoy it well enough, and even if I didn’t it’s hard to see the harm in it enough to yuck somebody’s yum.
personally, nay. i have friends who have been in improv comedy troupes, and i feel like the real world applications of improv training (in a social, “make a great joke on the fly,” keep your brain sharp and be a better conversationalist way) have better dividends than actually sitting down and watching an improv show.
however, i gotta echo the “don’t yuck someone else’s yum” sentiments, so what do i know.
