Now that she’s a cynical teenager, my daughter and I have been bonding over frightening films. I remember being her age and watching the likes of ‘Phantasm’ and ‘Ghoulies’ with my cousin Elwood, and I am quite entertained that she shares my love of a scary movie. We’ve seen flicks that are truly amazing (‘Midsommar’, ‘Hereditary’ and ‘The Shining’), cheesy but effective (‘Hellhouse, LLC‘ and ‘Antrum‘) and completely inexplicable (whatever the @#$% was going on with ‘Mother!‘) but we’re always looking for new films, especially during the scariest month of the year, leading us to today’s recommendational query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) has seen a LOT of the obvious suspects, but isn’t always sure what the child will and won’t be interested in seeing, as ‘Psycho’ entertained but ‘The Exorcist’ bored her, asking: What scary movies should Widget and I definitely watch this Halloween season?

It’s not ‘scary’, nor a movie, I try to watch Disney’s version of “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” every year.
It might be an “obvious suspect,” but Scream does a good job of doing social drama overlaid with slasher horror.
For cheesy action/adventure horror, you could give The Faculty a try.
And for straight-up monster horror, I’d feel remiss if I didn’t mention Tremors.
