Previously in Willow: Willow has arrived in the town of Abhainn by accident and has met the alluring Aelara. However, there is something super comforting about this town that it strikes Willow as odd and she realizes the source; this place is full of witches. Willow is trying to sort out her own problems and perhaps this is the exact place she needs to be to figure it all out.
A LITTLE TOO COMFORTABLE
Willow wakes up after the bonfire and everyone is suddenly more friendly towards her. After being seemingly ignored the day prior, the difference is noticeably apparent to Willow. Willow seeks out Aelara and asks if this place was a cult. Aelara laughs and says this is just a place for witches to share their power because there is a lot of power in this spot. Willow ends up sharing her heart, which dwells on Xander and his lost soul. After the conversation, Willow runs into some other girls here and she senses fear in one of them. Willow then commits to figuring out what exactly is going on here.
DON’T EAT THE LENTIL SOUP
This comic certainly feels like a middle issue. We already have the exposition of the arc and now we move to Willow’s commitment to actually doing something about it. This is a solid progression in the narrative arc but I think we spent a lot of time explaining how talkative everyone was at the town and less time dealing with Willow’s trauma over Xander. I wanted more character development here. It almost felt interjected as a passing point instead of something fully explored. Which is unfortunate because this section was the most interesting part to me. Hopefully we will be able to explore more in future issues.
BOTTOM LINE: BORING BUT I AM STILL ON BOARD
Willow has previously done well exploring the trauma that she has been going through and I was a little surprised that it seemed glossed over here. I think we are setting the field up for a great next issue but I wish there was more meat here. The art has been amazingly consistent and I really enjoy the use of colors. 3.5 out of 5 stars for Willow #3.
