As a longtime fan of the Green Hornet and Kato, I was less-than-pleased with the Seth Rogen comedy take on the character. Though it had some cool bro-ings on featuring Rogen and Jay Chou (including the truly wonderful line “Dude… Dude, you’re speaking Chinese right now”), it didn’t really do justice to the Hornet. (Kato was pretty awesome, though.) Since it’s been nearly a decade, and we’re dealing with what’s technically a superhero property, I think it’s high time that someone brought back the other dynamic duo in more serious fashion. Perhaps they could even take on the generational aspects seen in the old Now Comics take on the character, with an older Hornet (as played by John Cena) handing off the role to his nephew (played by Ansel Elgort, maybe) with Yuriko Yoshitaka as Hayashi Kato’s younger sister, Mishi. Of course, my call isn’t always the will of the public, which leads us to today’s casting query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) figures that, since they’re going to reboot things constantly, we might as well get a leg up on the next one, asking: Who should play The Green Hornet and Kato in my hypothetical reboot film?

as a kid in the 90’s, i thought the idea of Jet Li as a descendant of the original Kato, taking over the Hornet mantle would’ve been great, with a Brendan Fraser or George Clooney as Kato. i always liked the idea of a role reversal.
nowadays, Daniel Wu from Into the Badlands, or Lewis Tan from various Marvel projects might make good formidable Hornets, while…..i dunno. my first thought would be Chris Pine or Pratt, who could play both comedic and straight swashbuckle-y action, but they’ve gotten enough pop culture roles. maybe the guy who played young Han Solo might be alright. anybody but Ryan Reynolds, honestly.
also, whatever they do, it better have some action from either Stahelski/Leitch, or Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian from the Raid movies.
I think John Boyega could do a great job as a Green Hornet/Britt Reid.
Oops! Forgot to have a Kato. I’ll pair up Boyega with Dichen Lahman from Altered Carbon and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Since I’ve only seen the Seth Rogen movie, I didn’t feel knowledgeable enough to answer this one on my own, so I turned to a co-worker friend of mine who is big into the Green Hornet.
He said Luke Evans and Daniel Wu.
I wish Donnie Yen was 10 years younger. I’ll go with Tony Jaa as Kato, Chris Pratt as Green Hornet.
