Sometimes I envy the youth of today in their choice of entertainments. Where they get to decide whether to watch ‘Mad Men,’ ‘Westworld’ and other such quality programs, I had the choice of ‘The Love Boat’ or a test pattern. On special nights, you could watch three different episodes of ‘Hee Haw’ all at the same time. Loving the goofiest bits of superhero and comic book culture as I do, I’m perfectly fine making an impassioned defense for the greatness of Irwin Schwab, The Ambush Bug, but it is a bit embarrassing to try and explain the merits of ‘Fantasy Island.’ (Unless we’re going into a discussion of the nature of Mister Roarke, who may be angel, devil or mattress-salesman from Ohio, but that’s another QOTD entirely.) There are always those things that we love in private, be it ‘Twilight’, X-Files fan fiction, or anything Frank Miller has written in the 21st century, which leads to today’s faintly mortifying query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is generally not big on matter of shame, but doesn’t always admit to my deep, abiding love of ‘Gilligan’s Island’, asking: What book/movie/comic/show do you love, in spite of the fact that it’s a little bit embarrassing to admit?
