Thanks to The Legion Clubhouse, one our newest podcast shows here at the Mighty Major Spoilers, I’ve had a lot of time to think about the various forms which a DC Comics alien can take. Naltorians can see the future, Bismollians can eat and digest any matter, Gil’Dishpan can make anyone giggle while the float around like big gray coral reefs. Heck there are half a dozen races, from Daxamites to Czarnians to Andromedans, all of whom can go toe to toe with Superman on his own terms. Then again, Kryptonian is also an option, though that tends to come with the whole “dead family and people package” standard, leading to today’s exobiological query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is thinking that the vast array of powers, senses and abilities given to a Martian makes the beetle brow and chartreuse skin worth suffering, asking: Which single DC Comics alien species would you choose to be?

Green Martian. They can shapeshift, alter their density, and fly.
They have telepathy to boot.
Never getting too close to a fire would be difficult.
You don’t even really have to worry about the fire. That wasn’t so much a racial as a psychological thing for J’onn specifically.
Even considering the circumstances, probably Kryptonian. Almost all others tend to have some crippling drawback. It’s also nice to look like a regular human.
Tough choice, particularly since I’ve played quite a few across various RP games (including a wonderful homebrew D&D with rules modified to fit DC powers and skills).
But I would probably go with G’Newtian. Nothing particularly special about them aside from being goofy dog people, but hey, at least it isn’t a boring old human!
Second choice is whatever race Jack T. Chance is. Blue skin and pointy elf-like ears is appealing to me.
Trommite. Two words: elemental transmutation.
Durlan seems a good option. No inherent weaknesses and the ability to take the form and abilities of nearly any creature/object gives an incredible amount of flexibility.
