The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
ANGEL SEASON 11 #1
Writer: Corinna Bechko
Artist: Geraldo Borges
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION:
Vampire Angel is tormented by a vision linking his shameful past to something very big—and very bad—that is coming. The goddess Illyria gives Angel some insight and incentive. Then she really gets involved, and Angel discovers that it might be possible to change the future by changing the past.
* Writer Corinna Bechko (Tomb Raider, Star Wars) brings you the vampire Angel in his own series!
* Featuring Fred and Illyria!
ROB: I’ll be honest, I was a bit more excited about seeing the title than the finish of that premise, but I’m still down to getting more Fred/Illyria in my life. Both are fantastic parts of the franchise that seem to be consistently overlooked.
BATMAN #15
Writer: Tom King
Artist: Mitch Gerads
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: How do you solve a problem like Selina Kyle? Is she a hero? Is she a villain? Can Batman and Catwoman ever really work things out? The award-winning team of Tom King and Mitch Gerads of Babylon (SHERIFF OF BABYLON) bring you “Rooftops,” a story in which Batman must decide once and for all what to do about Catwoman.
WAYNE: All right, they’ve done the nasty! Now what? Hopefully this issue will tell us what’s in store for Bruce and Selina! Looking forward to it!
CAVE CARSON HAS A CYBERNETIC EYE #4
Writer: Jonathan Rivera
Artist: Michael Avon Oeming
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Cave and his team find the underground city of Muldroog, and it’s not what he expected. Plus, Cave has visions of his deceased wife, but are they hallucinations, or is there more to this than meets the cybernetic eye? Also features a Super Powers backup feature by Thomas Scioli (G.I. Joe vs. Transformers)!
CHRIS: There’s pretty much nothing wrong with this book. I mean, its got Wild Dog in it. Who thought they’d ever bring that guy back? Well, maybe people who watched the episode of Arrow he was in, but still. This is good comics.
CURSE WORDS #1
Writer: Charles Soule
Artist: Jordan Boyd
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The new ongoing series from CHARLES SOULE (Daredevil, Death of Wolverine, Star Wars) and RYAN BROWNE (GOD HATES ASTRONAUTS) is COMING FOR YOU! A wizard has appeared in New York City, and he’s casting wonderful spells, getting famous, getting rich-it’s great! But it’s not. This wizard has everyone fooled. He is actually an EVIL WIZARD, and EVIL THINGS are on the way. CURSE WORDS is a gonzo modern fantasy, full of darkness, light…and MAGIC.
MATTHEW: How can I say no to a pitch like that?
DEADPOOL THE DUCK #2
Writer: Stuart Moore
Artist: Jacopo Camagni
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: What do you get when you take one cynical anthropomorphic duck (named Howard) and cross it with the smelliest (and most annoying) mercenary in the Marvel Universe? DEADPOOL THE DUCK! When Deadpool is sent on a mission from S.H.I.E.L.D. to capture a high-profile E.T. that is rampaging across the high plains, the snatch-and-grab turns out to be much more complicated than the Merc with a Mouth anticipated. One unfortunate wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time accident later leaves Deadpool and Howard fighting for control of the cutest mercenary the Marvel Universe has ever seen! Brought to you with words by Stuart Moore (CLOAK & DAGGER, THANOS: DEATH SENTENCE Novel) and art by Jacopo Camagni (DEADPOOL’S SECRET SECRET WARS).
CHRIS: Issue one of this was shockingly good. Straight up draw dropping shock. Of course, the title character was only on the last page so things could go south pretty quick which wouldn’t surprise me. The art is amazing so it will be fun to look at.
JUSTICE LEAGUE SUICIDE SQUAD #5
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Robson Rocha
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: [REDACTED] has finally obtained that which [REDACTED] has sought all this time -it’s the means to utterly [REDACTED] the Justice League forever. Now, only [REDACTED] and the Suicide Squad stand in [REDACTED] path of total world domination. No pressure!
WAYNE: Don’t let all that redaction fool you! This miniseries has been great, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming conclusion!
MIGHTY CAPTAIN MARVEL #1
Writer: Margaret Stohl
Artist: Ramon Rosanas
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Greatest. That’s what they call her. Carol Danvers has been to the depths of outer space and back, but that still hasn’t prepared her for her newfound status of biggest super hero ever. Yaas, Queen! Danvers may not like the crown she’s wearing, but boy does it look good on her. Just watch out for the thorns it comes with—forces trying to take down everything Carol has built. Carol Danvers makes her triumphant return as the Mighty Captain Marvel! Written by celebrity writer Margaret Stohl (Beautiful Creatures, Black Widow: Forever Red) and drawn by the artfully talented Ramon Rosanas (Ant-Man), this bold new take on Earth’s mightiest and favorite hero!
ROB: Carol as a Queen? Mighty Captain Marvel? This sounds interesting regardless who’s writing. I’m down for where this story goes for at least the first few issues.
REVOLUTIONARIES #1
Writer: John Barber
Artist: Fico Ossio
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: THE REVOLUTION MAY BE OVER–but the future is just beginning! Ripped from the pages of the hottest crossover of the year, the REVOLUTION team of John Barber and Fico Ossio continue the action! KUP is a CYBERTRONIAN literally older than the universe; ACTION MAN is the ultimate special agent trying to live up to an impossible legacy; MAYDAY is a G.I. JOE leader trying to rescue her first command; and BLACKROCK is a CYBERTRONIAN that thinks he’s a human. It takes the mind-bending clash of ROM versus MAJOR BLUDD and the OKTOBER GUARD to bring this unlikely team together… and the secret they learn threatens to unravel the entire universe.
CHRIS: While Stephen’s review was a little less than glowing, I wasn’t much surprised. Revolution wasn’t the knockout I was hoping for so my expectations for this are pretty low. I’m 100% the target demographic for this though, so I feel obligated to read it. That’s weird, right?
MATTHEW: The Hasbro Shared Universe has begun. I’m intrigued, totally worried, and my 12 year old self is thrilled… I want this to be excellent.
STAR TREK WAYPOINT #3

And in Scott’s “The Wildman Maneuver,” an unlikely member of the Voyager crew “saves” the ship! Check out the variant covers featuring STAR TREK artists from the last 50 years of Trek comics!
WAYNE: As a Niner who LOVES DS9, I’m really anxious to read this story! I hope it’ll do so well that we’ll see more of my favorite Trek in comics!
TMNT UNIVERSE #6

MATTHEW: The first issue of this book blew me away, especially since the previews and hype made it seem kinda boneheaded. It’s not. You should read it…
