Your Humble MS-QOTD tries not to lie to y’all, the Faithful Spoilerites, so here’s the truth: I find the endless noodling jokes about Die Hard being anyone’s favorite Christmas movie to be incredibly tiresome. There’s just a terrible, grinding sense of meaninglessness beneath those words, echoed again and again by people who have just discovered the notion, leaving me not frustrated or angry but profoundly drained. Still, if it gives folks joy, I’m not going to be the guy who rains on their parade. I will say, though, that if I could eject one concept from the zeitgeist in the coming New Year, it’d be a close fight between Die Hard and cruel jokes at the expense of deceased public figures, leading to today’s retconned-away query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) has long since given up arguing the difference between a Christmas movie and a movie set at Christmas, asking: What one bit of pop culture banality or common knowledge would you most like to throw out with the old year?

Star Wars. And Mashups. And Lego reenactments.
I gotta go with you, Matthew, and pick your second thing. I got pretty irritated last night when I saw my relatives posting stupid jokes at the expense of George Michael’s death. I’m not even a fan of the guy at all (I think he had one song I actually liked as a kid in the late 80’s and that was it), and I still found them pretty irritating. Not so much offensive as just distasteful and annoying. I do not usually get so easily agitated, but everyone has a few things that just rub them the wrong way.
