Disney announced today that Star Wars: Episode VIII has started principal photography at Pinewood Studios. In addition to the production announcement, the studio also dropped three new names that are joining the cast.
Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Rian Johnson and continues the storylines introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, welcomes back cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. New cast members will include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and talented newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
Benicio Del Toro is a natural fit for Star Wars, and Laura Dern is a nice surprise addition, but like many, I’m sure you’re asking, “Who the heck is Kelly Marie Tran?”
A native San Diego, Tran graduated from UCLA, but has long had an infatuation with acting and performance. She started out singing in local musical theater and went on to train at three prestigious improv groups: iO West, Second City, and Upright Citizens Brigade.
You can see her next in XoXo from Netflix.
Before you set your computer on fire, and start rampaging through the streets, just keep in mind that we have until December 15, 2017 for the films release, and the longer we delay our initial reactions, the better off the Interwebz will be.

I’m so glad to see that Maz Kanata and Captain Phasma are back! Maz has no doubts lots and lots of interesting backstory and Captain Phasma appeared too little on episode VII, so I’m happy to see we’ll see more of her.
