IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
BATGIRL #44
Writers: Cameron Stewart, Brendan Fletcher
Artist: Babs Tarr
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: Velvet Tiger’s got her claws around Luke Fox’s throat – and only Batgirl can save him!
WAYNE: What a great comic Batgirl is! Highly recommended!
FIGHT CLUB 2 #5
Writer: Chuck Palahniuk
Artist: Cameron Stewart
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Since he was discharged from the mental hospital, Sebastian has been a do-nothing cog in the worlds largest military-industrial corporation: Rize or Die. Marla searches for clues among the various clubs that have spun off of Tylers original fight clubs, and she discovers that Project Mayhem is not a boys-only enterprise-not anymore.
CHRIS: Want to read a book where a man’s second personality tries to kill him? Want to see the return of a fan favorite character famously portrayed by Meatloaf? How about the destruction of great pieces of art? With human blood. No? Then this isn’t the book for you. For the rest of us other degenerates, Fight Club 2 has everything we need in this issue and it’s awesome. Rize or Die.
NAMELESS #5
Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Chris Burnham
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: The soul-destroying origin story of the man known only as ‘Nameless’ is uncovered in all its horror. What caused ‘Nameless’ to surrender his identity? What are the sickening secrets of the Razor House Project? And what went wrong in there? On the eve of extinction, all is finally revealed.
CHRIS: This is most definitely not a book for everyone and not just because of Morrison’s off the wall ideas. There are some pretty intense and graphic images but it should be right up any horror fans’ alley, especially those interested in a twisted Cthulu-esque satan monster in space story. Yeah, I wrote that sentence and don’t really know what it means either. Thanks Morrison!
RUMBLE #7
Writer: John Arcudi
Artist: James Harren
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.50
SOLICITATION: The Esu are in full attendance as they return in a Counsel of Monsters! And Rathraq is humbled by a new foe. New for him, anyway.
CHRIS: I’m not a fantasy/vikings kind of guy but damn if Rumble isn’t a great comic. It isn’t totally a viking story I guess since the protagonist is a walking, talking scarecrow. The story is off the wall fun but the real draw is the artwork. Mindblowing, kinetic and all kinds of awesome, each issue has me wanting to give up drawing knowing I’ll never be that good. I highly suggest you check this one out and get the first trade as well.
RUNAWAYS #4
Writer: Noelle Stevenson
Artist: Sanford Greene
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: • It’s the end of the road for the Runaways! • Betrayals! Reunions! Maybe some making out! Definitely a death or two. • This one’s got it all! (Except cowboys. That was last issue.)
ROB: One of the few titles that’s actually been about the Battleworld and not just the particular realms within, this has been a fun ride so far.
POWER CUBED #1
Writer/Artist: Aaron Lopresti
Publisher: Dark Horse
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: What if you had a piece of technology that created anything you could possibly want, and all you had to do was imagine it? What would you wish for? For Kenny Logan, his first wish is to survive his eighteenth birthday! His unique matter-reinterpreting device has attracted the attention of a bumbling Nazi scientist with plans for world domination and an elite government agent who is hell bent on acquiring the device to stop an alien invasion at any cost. Aaron Lopresti delivers a comical coming-of-age tale in a fantastic sci-fi universe!
WAYNE: This book has character, action, fun, adventure … I hope this is a huge success so we get even more Power Cubed!
TECH JACKET #11
Writer: Joe Keatinge
Artist: Khary Randolph
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: With the existence of the entire galaxy at stake, what’s the cost of a few loved ones’ lives? Is Tech Jacket’s life about to get seriously jacked up?
WAYNE: As much as I enjoy Robert Kirkman’s writing, I think Mr. Keatinge has really made this comic his own, something special! Don’t miss it!
TMNT CASEY & APRIL #4
Writer: Mariko Tamaki
Artist: Irene Koh
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Casey and April struggle to overcome the Rat King’s machinations. Will they be able to make their way to the eldest Pantheon sibling and find the answers they are looking for?
ROB: Woo, more Rat King! Forcing the humans to deal on their own has made for a fun read so far, and I’m looking to the two of them kicking some Pantheon but.
WE ARE ROBIN #4
Writer: Lee Bermejo
Artist: Khary Randolph, James Harvey
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: In the wake of a huge loss, the Robins are reeling with grief. Riko takes to the rooftops of Burnside to find a symbol of hope, and finds herself living out a dream as she teams up with her personal hero: Batgirl!
ROB: So far this has been a pretty interesting take on Gotham. I’m pretty certain I’m taking this for the long haul at this point.
STEPHEN: It’s such an interesting premise that is begging for the mask to be pulled back and the leader revealed, but I’m totally ready for Batgirl to show up and fight alongside one of the Robins. It’s an interesting series that totally needs to find a larger audience.

Hey Steven,
Did you ever think of doing a “poll of the week” with the comics for that week? Respondents could pick as many titles as they wanted and instead of giving a percentage of the total, just give a count for each book. It would be interesting to see what people that visit major spoilers are buying.
Take care,
ssmetzer
With over 150 books arriving most weeks, that’s a long poll for people to select from.
Of course there is a comment section, right under this post where you can also share the books you are buying…. Just a thought… ;)
Also, I have something else planned that is better than a “poll of the week” list for comics. Shhhhhh.
Cool. I look forward to seeing the new feature.
