The New York Daily News broke the story that post Secret Wars, Miles Morales will be leading the Spider-Man comic.
Note that this is not Ultimate Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man, Sensational, Uncanny, etc. Just Spider-Man. The book will be written by Brian Michael Bendis, and noted in the article, “Many kids of color who when they were playing superheroes with their friends, their friends wouldn’t let them be Batman or Superman because they don’t look like those heroes but they could be Spider-Man because anyone could be under that mask. But now it’s true. It’s meant a great deal to a great many people.”
“Our message has to be it’s not Spider-Man with an asterisk, it’s the real Spider-Man for kids of color, for adults of color and everybody else,” says Bendis of the series which is drawn by artist Sarah Pichelli.
This story comes on the heels of the recent Marvel Studios Sony Entertainment leaked email citing that the movie version of Spider-Man will always be Peter Parker.
From the publisher side, this is a move in the right direction to diversify comics that have (and still do) contain a large number of white heroes. What do you think of Miles Morales coming into the Marvel-616 Universe (if it is even called that after Secret Wars wraps)?

“Miles Morales is Super-Man post Secret Wars ”
So Secret Wars screwed up the timelines so bad they threw him over to the DCU? Wow!
HA! Thanks for catching that.
Can Mayday Parker make it over into the post-Secret Wars continuity, too?
I’m all in favor of Miles Morales taking up the webshooters in the main comic line, but realistically I doubt it’ll stick (no pun intended). Ben Reilly got one year as Spider-Man, I’d bet on Morales getting two, tops.
One of the nice things about the Ultimate universe being a separate continuity was that it seemed like a setup where Morales really could have stayed Spider-Man indefinitely – but with the ‘main’ comic lines “The Status Quo is God”, and I’m sure Parker will be back before too long.
You make the assumption that Peter Parker will be gone at all. The title that Miles is associated with is “No Adjective Spider-man” similar to the “No Adjective X-men.”
I’ll bet Miles will be an intern at Parker Industries. Mayday might show up as “The Spectacular Spider-woman” to counter Jessica Drew’s “Spider-woman.”
