But what to read?
Fortunately, the Major Spoilers Staff have comic book recommendations for you!
AUTUMNLANDS #4
Writer: Kurt Busiek
Artist: Ben Dewey
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: With the Great Champion away, the city is vulnerable to Goodfoot’s machinations.
GEORGE: I haven’t spoken to anyone with a bad word to say about Autumnlands. You know Busiek is good, and such an interesting, beautifully-rendered world is a steal at $2.99.
BATGIRL #39
Writer: Cameron Stewart
Artist: Babs Tarr
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: For months, Batgirl’s been hounded by an unseen threat claiming to be the ‘real’ Batgirl
ASHLEY: Batgirl is pretty solid under this new creative team and the BATGIRL VS BURNSIDE cover is really, really intriguing.
BATMAN AND ROBIN #39
Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
Artist: Patrick Gleason, Mick Gray
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Has Damien Wayne become something more than human? And how do you control a reckless child who now has super powers?
WAYNE: The final issues of this often-renamed title are here, and I’ll miss it, frankly! I plan to follow it until the end! I do love the homage cover to that early Superman carrying a car!
BITCH PLANET #3
Writer: Kelly Sue DeConnick
Artist: Robert Wilson
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.50
SOLICITATION: “Too Big to Fail” reveals the specific events leading to zaftig Penny Rolle’s incarceration. ROBERT WILSON IV (Knuckleheads) joins KELLY SUE DeCONNICK (PRETTY DEADLY, CAPTAIN MARVEL) on art duties for this flashback issue.
GEORGE: It’s only the third issue and we’ve already got a flashback issue? That’s fine with me. The first two Bitch Planets have been top-notch stuff, and I’m glad the focus is getting spread around the cast. So much is going on in this series, and it’s all so smartly delivered.
CREEPY #19
Writer: Richard P. Clark, Ivan Cohen, Dan Braun, Peter Bagge
Artist: Richard P. Clark, Peter Bagge, Attila Futaki
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Ring in spring with more thrills and chills than you can shake a baseball bat at! Featuring pugnacious paintings from Richard P. Clark (House of Gold & Bones) and brutal ball games from Ivan Cohen (Beware the Batman) and Attila Futaki (Severed), plus hilarious tales of the Creepy family from Peter Bagge and Dan Braun!
RODRIGO: I’m a fan of anthology comics because of my very short attention span. Creepy really does a good job of harkening back to the old EC stuff from back in the day. Good Harkening, Dark Horse, good harkening.
DEADLY CLASS #11
Writer: Rick Remender
Artist: Wesley Craig
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.50
SOLICITATION: Marcus and Maria fight for their life, and their love, as the sins of their past come crashing down all around them, wielding Uzis, shotguns, and machetes.
Steel your nerves for the heart-pounding finale to the second arc of RICK REMENDER and WES CRAIG’s DEADLY CLASS.
GEORGE: This is such an intense, weird series. Remender’s concerns with music and growing up and adolescent love and teen angst fuse so well with Wesley Craig’s art. Month to month, this is one of the series I look forward to the most.
IXth GENERATION #2
Writer: Matt Hawkins
Artist: Stjepan Sejic
Publisher: Top Cow
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Aphrodite IX has the Witchblade and several other Artifacts have also appeared, destroying the delicately balanced utopia. Who is wielding the Darkness and why is it so hellbent on killing all of the IXs?
RODRIGO: The eternal fight between The Darkness and the Witchblade is destined to play out forever, it even spills onto other properties.
LUMBERJANES #11
Writer: Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters
Artist: Carolyn Nowak
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Mal and Molly are on an adventure they don’t really understand, but they will rely on each other to make it back to their friends and camp. What is the Bear Woman up to this time? And what are Jo, April, and Ripley up to while their friends fight for their lives?
ASHLEY: Always more Lumberjanes! This is consistently one of the cutest books out there with some of the strongest female characters. This is the second part of a new arch and I am so excited to see what the girls are getting up to.
MATTHEW: Just… just go. Go read this book. You can thank me later.
STEPHEN: I love this book so much. I don’t know if it is because of the adventure nature of the tale, the nearly all female cast, or the spooky nature of the world Noelle Stevenson and Shannon Watters have created. Regardless, this is a book to pick up each and every time it shows up.
MULTIVERSITY MASTERMEN #1
Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Scott Williams, Jim Lee
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Superstar writer Grant Morrison joins legendary artist Jim Lee on Earth-10 for one of the most dynamic, action-packed issues of this entire world-shattering series – THE MULTIVERSITY: MASTERMEN!
Imagine a world where the Nazis not only won World War II but went on to direct world culture for the next 60 years with the help of an orphaned, alien super-weapon known as Overman! But hope is not lost! Rising from the ashes of oppression are a diverse band of heroes raging against the fascist regime – a band of heroes known as THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS!
What nightmarish parallel worlds haunt the dreams of Overman? Who is the mysterious figure called Uncle Sam? And when the dust settles, will the actions of Phantom Lady, Black Condor, Human Bomb, Doll Man and The Ray be enough to stop Leatherwing, Blitzen and the other “heroes” of Earth-X?
Learn all this and more in this exciting issue that acts as chapter seven of the critically acclaimed MULTIVERSITY storyline.
ASHLEY: These issues are awesome. The Nazi world is scary. I’m in.
MATTHEW: It’s Earth-X! Holy moley, it’s Earth-X! This series has been a fun look at DC’s history of multiple Earths, shown through the lens of Grant Morrison’s shaman-brain, and it’s been super-entertaining so far. I’m really looking forward to this one…
RODRIGO: There’s something freeing about reading a book that already takes place in a bunch of different realities. It’s a comfortable level of weirdness.
STEPHEN: There’s something scary about a world where the Nazis won the war, and with Superman in charge, how Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters are going to win this fight is going to be an interesting read.
WAYNE: Mr. Morrison’s Multiversity is good stuff going over big time, so I don’t miss an issue! Neither should you!

WAYNE: I always love Mr. Kindt’s scripting, and this title is a different take on the team book concept. Cool art and cool writing, love it!
