I’ve always liked Patrick Stewart, he is my favorite Starfleet captain and excellent professor Xavier, but eventually its time to step down after acting that role for so long time and I think he knew it it too.
I mean, that makes sense — he’s not leaving because it’s time to step down, he’s sitting it out because the plot of X-Men: Apocalypse takes place in the past, where James McAvoy is Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender is Erik Lensherr. So he and Ian Mckellan could still return to the roles in future films.
I don’t know what I am feeling just yet. I love his work and he was the PERFECT Prof. X, so it is certainly sad that he won’t be returning to the role, but at the same time I’m personally just burnt out on the X franchise in general (minus a couple of animated incarnations), so I don’t know if I’m bothered by it or not.
