I agree, the 80’s was not kind. Why “Cover them with lights” was shorthand for “high tech” I’ll never know.
Based only on it’s 1982 version, Tron exists within the world of the computer system, and is software of that system. Automan, however Had the capacity to step out of the computer existence as a Holographic Avatar and could interact with the outside world. All Automan has to do is find a way of shutting down Tron’s computer, and the battle is over before it began.

A baby level Digimon could come along and destroy them both, but they could both defeat the Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad.
This battle would last a while across both realms (physical and digital). It will be crazy, every vehicle Tron has will go head to head Automan’s vehicles. Cursor will figure out how to duplicate Tron’s stuff and BIT will just get in the way and be taken out by Automan quickly. Automan would keep dropping but Cursor would just keep bringing him back. Tron will take out Cursor with his Identity Disk and then crush Automan with a Recognizer! Tron for the WIN!

Tron had a much bigger budget than Automan’s short lived tv show there for Tron to win in a huge explosion of horribly dated FX.
Haven’t thought of that in years, maybe if Automan had a budget. How about Exoman vs Original Ironman, Lucan/Manimal vs Wolverine?
I actually researched Automan (being born well after it aired) and have to go with Automan. Although both would lose against Rockman.exe
I had to look Automan up before I voted. A twelve episode show had to be a new low for Glen Larson, who was the epitome of cheap, knock-off television. Really, though, it comes down to Which Sissy in a Pantywaist Costume will win, so I had to find a different criteria for deciding. Tron wins major points for “Original over Cheap Knock-off” and for Longevity – Tron is well thought of for its ground-breaking (for the day) special effects and blending live action and animation, while Automan pretty much stole Tron’s playbook and simply added reflective fabric to the mix. The winning points are scored when you consider the actor’s careers. Automan pretty much drove an oak stake through the heart of Desi Anaz, Jr.’s career and he hasn’t done a thing since 1992. Bruce Boxleitner is still acting, though he’s looking rather worse for wear these days and – hey – he played General Longstreet in 2003, which beats the stuffing out of anything Desi Light ever did. So it’s Tron for the win!
When I saw the poll this week, my first thoughts were “Wasn’t that the TRON knockoff that I saw in high school”. It was lame then and It’s lame now.
