BOOM! Studio drop us a quick email to let us know that 20th Century Fox has optioned the publisher’s series, The Foundation to be developed as a feature film.
Some may remember that I tagged this five-issue mini-series as a potential movie when it was released in 2007, and it looks like someone saw the potential as well.
History shows that in the 1500s, Nostradamus’ three volumes of prophecies were best-sellers, making him a rich man. But what the world doesn’t know is that he used his vast treasure-trove of riches to create a foundation to prevent his most catastrophic prophesies from occurring! This secret team still functions today, using Nostradamus’ published and unpublished tomes to predict threats to worldwide security! In the vein of The X-Files, but with a 24-like spin!
Fox has tapped Evan Daughtery (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) to write the adaptation, with Ross Richie (CEO and founder of BOOM! Studios) will produce the adaptation.
BOOM! signed a first-look feature film deal with 20th Century Fox, opening a satellite office on the Fox lot this past April. The Hollywood Reporter characterized the deal as a pact that “potentially could be one of the most lucrative underlying rights deals ever made with a comic book company.” The deal gives Fox first crack at BOOM!’s catalog of comic book series, but if the studio passes, BOOM! can shop the titles to other potential buyers.
Things are looking up for BOOM! as the year starts to wind down, and I hope we see even more movie adaptations announced from the publisher soon.
