Major Spoilers Poll of the Week: It always boils down to a DC vs. Marvel debate

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherJune 24, 201413 Comments1 Min Read

Hermione Granger looked like she was going to move up the magic charts when she defeated Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, but sadly she fell to both Scarlet Witch and Zatanna. If those two magic types can best the young wizard from Hogwarts, what would happen if they had to battle each other?

    FIGHT!

I voted Zatanna. Her hanging out with Constantine surely added to her bag of dirty, underhanded tricks. It still counts as a win if you win fighting dirty, right?

      • Zach Woolf on June 24, 2014 7:02 pm

It’s not cheating if you don’t get caught.

    2. Russ Catt on June 24, 2014 12:05 pm

I think if both characters had their power levels dialled back to an 8, the Scarlet Witch’s probability-shifting powers could tip the scales.

      • Doctor Dinosaur on June 24, 2014 12:39 pm

I don’t know man. SW has always had some less than stellar characterization, from slightly unhinged to completely off her rocker. Assuming neither have the omnipotence they occasionally posses I’d say Zatanna wins it based on pure intellect and sanity. She’s got the sleight of hand and stage presence, I can see her tricking Wanda. Power-wise it’s a toss-up. They’ve both been known to juggle universes. So Zatanna on sneakitude.

But maybe I just prefer the character.. She has had some good writers in the past Morrison, Gaiman, Dini.

Can we get a Dr. Fate V Dr. Strange match-up as well?

    3. Paul on June 24, 2014 12:18 pm

No specific rationale for choosing Zatanna other than the bow tie. Bow ties are cool.

    4. Mike Estep on June 24, 2014 12:55 pm

I am going with the Scarlet Witch because she does not need to speak only to think, and as in many of the other fights this will probably be decided by who gets things of first.

    5. HipHopHead on June 24, 2014 1:12 pm

Zatanna…if this is battle of MAGIC. Scarlet Witch is a mutant and sometimes she has no idea what her powers will do.

      Black Fishnet Stockings!!! Say “WORD…SON!!”

Does the Scarlet Witch look a little like Chloe O’Brian (from 24), with no sex appeal at all.

While Zatanna looks like she is inviting you in. As of this post 59% of the voters don’t know a witch from a mutant.

    6. Starks Scraps on June 24, 2014 1:45 pm

      Hermoine!

    7. Cat Halo on June 24, 2014 2:29 pm

Scarlet Witch gets my vote, but it would be a very close, and wicked hot, battle.

    8. Vistapa on June 24, 2014 2:48 pm

As i understand, Scarlet witch’s powers are over probability and as result of this, she is able to perform practically any spell and enchantment she puts her mind into. In other words, she’s not “magic” per se, it’s her powers what makes impossible for her to lose against Zatana.

    9. Alisha on June 24, 2014 9:32 pm

As much as I like Zatanna better than Scarlet Witch, I have to give this to Scarlet Witch solely based on what I’ve seen of the two characters powers in action.

    10. Ashley Victoria Robinson on June 25, 2014 1:47 am

I find Wanda’s convenient as-strong-as-Marvel-needs-them-to-be-for-their-latest-event powers really, very tedious. Zatanna operates under at least the pretense of rules and regulations where her powers are concerned. Plus she’s a decent human being. Plus she’s real purty and I like her the best. The end.

    11. Scale Enlie on June 25, 2014 3:59 am

Scarlet Witch wins. Sure, during the times she has near-godlike powers she usually isn’t the protagonist. So what? It’s still near-godlike powers. All Zatanna can do is spell stuff backwards. Whoop dee doo! This aint no spelling bee!
