Joss Whedon has confirmed a specific pair of siblings are going to be joining the cast for Avengers 2. Take the jump to find out who.
After ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. announcement, one of the people over at IGN was able to talk to Whedon about rumors of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch being in the next film, to which Whedon had to say “You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.” This is an incredibly interesting step in the movie, even outside of the plot. I’ve been wondering for awhile as to which studio had the rights to Wanda and Pietro, what with their origins being completely tied to the X-Men and Fox having those rights, but now we know where they fall. The next question on that front is how much of their backstory will be revealed and what will be changed?
Just in case you haven’t seen Iron Man 3 yet, stop here, but since most of you have, Whedon also confirmed the return of Tony Stark in the Iron Man armor with this statement, “Well, I feel like in Iron Man 3, even though he said, ‘I’ve changed’ — he blew up his remote suits, but I don’t think anybody thinks he doesn’t have one anymore. The question is, if The Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, ‘Yes!’” Which is a mite disappointing after how the movie ended, as I was hoping for a bit more development than, “of course he’s back.” Maybe we will still get that.

well, this should be interesting, since there is now an article about Agents of Shield saying that the black guy hero isn’t Luke Cage, people were suspecting it was Luke Cage and we would see Scarlet Witch in the series, since they said that Coulson was dating a violinist
The question is, will they be mutants or something else. Have they acknowledged mutants in the films directly linked to the Avengers (i.e. Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor)? I don’t think they have. How they will address who their father is will also be interesting. Fanboys will be upset either way.
I recall reading somewhere there is a deal where Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver could appear in Avengers, even though Fox owns the rights to X-Men and X-Men related characters, provided they make no mention of their being mutants or related to Magneto.
I suspect that will be the case, though it does make one wonder how they might incorporate the “ex-villains” aspect of the characters–if at all.
I suppose they could make them simply former terrorists or something, but without the mutant agenda.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Feige had some back-and-forth about the Luke Cage subject on Twitter this morning …
“Thank U @Marvel President Kevin Feige for the nod. I’ll be ready. #RockAsCage #HeroForHire http://bit.ly/11EJTft pic.twitter.com/2eV4Jzucvr” – @TheRock
