With Spartacus set to end its run, and zombies still a popular property, it makes sense that Amazon Studios would look to mash the two genres in Zombies vs. Gladiators.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has hired Clive Barker to rewrite teh script that features the world’s first zombies.
Set in ancient Rome, the Zombies vs. Gladiators story begins when a shaman who is about to die in the Colosseum casts a spell that unleashes the world’s first zombies. It’s up to a gladiator to stop the spread of the zombie horde and save Rome.
This sounds like a really cool concept, though those long time fans of the Major Spoilers Podcast will have heard my pitch about a shaman that raises the dead for my kung-fu zombie western. Just sayin’…
No word on a release date, but Clive Barker and Amazon studios both seem rather pleased to be working together. The script was originally written by Michael Weiss and Gregg Ostrin, and it looks like more than one trailer was developed to sell the idea.
