The Clumsy Waiter reference from the letter is from ‘The Kentucky Fried Movie’ segment “That’s Armageddon!” with Donald Sutherland as ‘The Clumsy Waiter’. Great movie, and the ‘Armageddon’ segment spoofs the disaster movies of the era, which the films creators would stretch to feature length three years later with ‘Airplane’.
Listen up DC, I’ve got an idea for you… when the pendulum swings back towards there being one true Batman (One Bat to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them? – ‘them’ being villains of course, this ain’t no triple X porn parody) You can have another Battle For the Cowl where all the Batmen are out to prove that they should be the true Batman. Then eventually Bruce steps up to the plate and gives up on this mentoring thing to stop the madness.
Speaking of the privacy issue… I’ve had a similar thing happen to me to what happened to Matthew’s friend of a friend. They created a very complete – although not entirely accurate – picture of my identity. Then they took little snippets of things that I’ve said to paint a picture of me which pretty much trashed a career I spent a decade working towards.
But it was an important lesson for me to learn, because now I am much more cautious and careful about my information when I’m online.
I wasn’t worried about kooks and their doomsday predictions when I went into the podcast. But I came out worried about my internet identity. I am glad I closed my Facebook account after 2 hours.
There was a science-y podcast that had an episode about the mechanics behind cults that was interesting… there was a doomsday cult that the leader predicted X date, then when that date came a bunch of people left, but he came out with a new date. When that date passed, even more people left and he revised the End of Days again. Eventually it went from a large cult to a handful of people. :)
pretty sure that’s what’s happening here, the guy who’s calling for doomsday has done it before in the past
