X-Men First Class – The Movie?

You’ve already seen young Cyclops in the trailer to May’s Wolverine movie, and you may be seeing more of him in the near future (providing he doesn’t agree to appear in a DC Comics movie).  In an interview with Fox Movie Channel, franchise producer Lauren Shuler did say the X-Men: First Class movie was on the way and would be a flashback flick featuring the young versions of the mutants we’ve all come to love.

It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun… I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world. And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.

While it may be cool to hear news about First Class, I’m wondering why everyone is steering away from the X-Men Origins: Magneto movie?  And will the First Class follow the comic book series, or will this be the relaunch of the X-Men brand as a darker and edgier tale ala Iron Man the the Hulk? Fox is already trying to tweak the next Fantastic Four movie along those lines, so maybe the company is trying to get in line with Marvel Studios to attract more viewers.

This little nugget of news feels a little like emotional blackmail. “You better watch the Wolverine movie or you might not get the First Class movie.”

I still hate Wolverine so I still won’t see the movie.

I’m down as long as Brett Ratner isn’t involved.

They should follow Harry Potter’s formula. Do that, and they’ll have a successful franchise.

I wouldn’t do First Class. Doesn’t make sense with Shawn Ashmore as Iceman in X-Men 1-3. Again what is up with the secret ending in three(hospital bed scene

It’s a good idea but just curious to see how they’re goin to deal with Bobby/Iceman since, you know, he was kinda a young fella in X-men 1-3.
