ABC’s adaptation of the ITV comedy No Heroics is growing as more cast members join up the 30 minute sitcom. Freddie Prinze Jr. joins as Ultimatum, the nemesis for Paul Campbell’s Pete aka Chillout.
An A-list superhero, Bradley is a handsome, cocky and egotistical Alpha male who has all the women and fame and money a guy could want.
Of course he is, he’s married to Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Joining Prinze and Canadian actor Campbell are Eliza Coupe and Arielle Kebbel.

why can’t they just bring the thing over here. oh right, normal people are too stupid to understand the english accent. there was something about the fact that the girls were chubby. and the flame guy actually looked like a looser. i’m sorry, but paul campbell (who’ll probably be playing the flame guy) does not look that much of a looser compared to the original one.
another one of those wait-and-see i guess.
there’s also that little matter of cursing and brief nudity that won’t fly on ‘merican teevee.
Ever hear of the The Watchmen script Zach Snyder inherited? Long story short, it was kiddie, broad, and good guys won in the end replete with a catchphrase. It was Adam West-era Batman. The translation of No Heroics to the American television machine will be like that.
The Office is one of the few successful britcom imports because the American version has it’s own likable qualities, but not because it remotely resembles the original. Conversely NBC tried to do an American version of Couplings a few years back…sheer disaster. Again, the new show does not resemble what was likable about the original, but in that case, there was nothing likable to replace what was missing from the original show.
What makes the original No Heroics cool is exactly what ABC will choose to jettison. No Heroics (like The Watchmen) is not about spandex. Its about relatable schlubs who have superpowers IN ADDITION to being well written, foible-ridden characters. Now does that sound like something the suits tend to create for American comedy audiences? THe sheer wryness of the original has no chance of surviving Disneywood.
IIRC there was no “real” nudity in No Heroics, just some “bra and panties” shots… nothing that you wouldn’t see on… say, Desperate Housewives or anything. But I must admit I’m not familiar with the US broadcasting stations. Maybe that would already be too risque for ABC. (Is ABC a family channel?)
Anyway, a _lot_ of the humour revolved around sexuality, you woild have to do an awful lot of rewriting to cover up for that.
my day is ruined now.
