According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series is being adapted for a television series. At the moment Warner Bros. is nailing down the rights with its own DC Entertainment (I know, right?) in order to bring the idea to the small screen. A few months ago, Sandman was looking like it mind land at HBO, but now that WBTV is involved, who knows where it could end up. I think the subject matter is going to be a little hard to swallow on the CW, but perhaps WB’s involvement will find it back at Home Box Office.

Ugh. I hope so. The only way this would not be horrible would be at HBO or Showtime. Might be able to pull it off at SyFy or AMC, but…
Kinda with Chris B., I have a bad feeling that the executives are going to think the viewers are morons and thus tone down the source material.
But on the other hand, it could be good. If it does get made, I’ll still hear Alan Rickman as dream.
Showtime, HBO and AMC are the only ones who will be able to pull this off.
*fingers crossed*
Not sure Sandman is up for HBO or Showtime but I could see it on Starz.
I dunno. Eric Kripke is at the head of the list to produce it, and he did a great job with Supernatural. Sure, it’ll be best on HBO, but being on the WB certainly won’t make it unwatchable, IMHO.
“*Ahem. Hey, um, DC Guys, you know that Super-Sand Guy thing you have that all your geeks like?”
“Yes, Boss? You mean Sandman?”
“Yeah, the fruit in the black dress. We’re making a TV show.”
“Awesome! That would be great on HBO or something!”
“Woah, woah, woah. You guys stick to comics, leave the TV stuff to the professionals here at Warner Bros, okay? We made Smallville, we know what we’re doing. We think it should be on the CW.”
“Mmmmm….. I think we’ll have to negotiate the rights on this one.”
Bad news. TV couldn’t even pull off the relatively pedestrian Birds Of Prey, how are they going to succeed with something this outre?
Birds of Prey was kind of a trial run though, granted a weak trial, but out of it came their second attempt which while some may not care for it, Smallville has lasted for quite a while.
I just don’t think this show will have any kind of audience at all, even if they’re slavishly devoted to the source material. I just think it’s too niche for even comic fans. I know there are people out there that love Sandman, and way more like myself that’ve never read it or even know anything about it (more than what I’ve learned from MSP). Here’s hoping though, I’m willing to watch and give it a shot.
