Previously in Smuggler’s Run: Han and Chewie are on a mission from Princess Leia and the rebel forces. This mission is to recover Lieutenant Ematt who is being hunted by the Imperial Army and holds vital information about the Resistance. Traveling on the Millenium Falcon, the duo head to the planet Cyrkon and must deal with Commander Beck of Imperial Security and bounty hunters from Jabba the Hutt alike. And worst yet, it seems like the bounty hunters and Commander Beck have decided to work together.

    IMPERIAL SCUM

Commander Beck interrogate Delia, one of Han’s contacts, about Han’s location. Meanwhile, Han and Chewie find themselves in an old motel looking for Ematt. When they recover him, they must escape a blaster fight with the bounty hunters! Through Chewie’s sheer strength and some luck, they escape on a speeder and head back to the Falcon. At the spaceport, Commander Beck is already there, and the trio are forced to surrender. Han sees Delia hovering over the spaceport in a ship and fakes an argument with Chewie. Through the distraction, they obtain a blaster and fire at the shielding that prevents the Falcon from leaving. Delia then lays some cover fire as our heroes escapes to their ship.

In space, both the Millenium Falcon and Delia’s ship tries to make a jump but needs some time. After some clever space fighting, Han realizes that they won’t make it out in time and plays a deadly gamble. He flies close to the surface of Cyrkon. If Commander Beck launches her tractor beam, it destroys the protective atmosphere surrounding the planet. When news gets out, many people will hate the Imperial Empire and potentially join the rebellion. She ultimately decides to call the attack off, letting Han and crew to escape.

    BAD PRESS

Han Solo is a clever hero. When you are outnumbered and outgunned, you use whatever resources you may have. In this case, it was the media that has the power to influence many people. That is insanely clever. It is an interesting lesson for kids too and sort of the cost of information spreading, both true and untrue. It was my understanding that this is a kid’s book and I imagine these ideas are accessible with kids access to the internet. I applaud the original book author and the comic book adaption for this little miniseries. I think the story was overall quite good.

BOTTOM LINE: RECOMMENDED FOR YOUNG READERS

I really liked this book because it showed the strength of Han Solo as a character. Often, he seems thrown to the side in favor of the more force sensitive characters. To see him given a respectable approach in his own story is delightful. This is a strong recommendation for anyone who has kids and wants to get them into Star Wars, Comics, or both! 4 out of 5 and I am looking forward to whatever else is written under the Star Wars Adventures title.
