BATGIRL AND THE BIRDS OF PREY #1
Writer: Julie Benson/Shawna Benson
Artist: Claire Roe
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “Who Is Oracle?” part one! Someone has stolen the name Oracle right out of Barbara Gordon’s past! Hot on this false Oracle’s trail, Batgirl, Black Canary, and Huntress are all tracking the same mafia capo…so it makes sense to team up, right? Problem is, Barbara and Dinah need the secrets locked up in Oracle’s brain…and Helena Bertinelli would rather put a crossbow bolt right through it!
MATTHEW: I’ve always liked the concept of the BoP, and I’m willing to see what a new creative team can do with it…
BATMAN #5
Writer: Tom King
Artist: David Finch
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “I Am Gotham” part five. In the final chapter of this epic, is Batman truly the hero Gotham City deserves-or does it deserve better? In this ultimate showdown, where the line between allies and enemies blurs, the question will finally be answered…and the fate of Gotham will be decided.
JON: This is it, the climax to Tom King’s first arc on Batman. I have very high expectations for this issue as I feel like a lot of questions still need to be answered but I’m confident in King’s ability to finish strong. David Finch has been incredible on art, too, so this is a book I can’t wait to pick up.
STEPHEN: The first arc of the new Batman series is here! I can’t believe we’ve blown through this story as fast as we have. It’s been a blast with a few surprises, and anyone wondering what comic they should pick up this week know the answer – THIS ONE! (also the previous four)
KLAUS #7
Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Dan Mora
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Final issue! Klaus must not only save Yuletime, but the town of Grimsvig itself from the evil Krampus and Lord Magnus.
STEPHEN: THE TRUE STORY OF SANTA CLAUS! Or maybe not… still, give Grant Morrison a chance to wrap the myth, mysticism, and Morrison into a story, and you end up with a very trippy experience. Definitely check this series out.
MIRACULOUS #4
Writer: Zag Entertainment
Artist: Zag Entertainment
Publisher: Action Lab Entertainment
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Armed with his magic bubbles sword, Nino becomes the Bubbler and plans to rid Paris of all its parents! Can Ladybug and Cat Noir put aside their differences and stop him before he “gifts” Adrien the best/worst birthday of all time? Plus, Chole makes her move on Adrien! Romance, intrigue, and action abound in the latest installment of Action Lab’ shit series!!!
MATTHEW: Wanna read teen superhero adventures in the old-school Spider-Man manner? Have I got a book for you…
NIGHTWING #3
Writer: Tim Seeley
Artist: Javi Fernandez
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “Better than Batman” part three! Nightwing and Raptor have become the pride of the Parliament of Owls, successfully completing missions for them across the globe-but Batgirl is not happy. Can she convince Nightwing he’s gone too far, or has he fallen too far under Raptor’s influence?
JON: This past weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting Tim Seeley at Boston Comic Con and he told me to make sure I pick up Nightwing #3 because it was going to be a good one. How can you say no when the writer himself tells you in person to pick up the book? The fact that the story and art are great also helps make this one a no-brainer.
SUICIDE SQUAD #1
Writer: Rob Williams
Artist: Jim Lee
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “The Black Vault” part one! When a mysterious and definitely super-important cosmic item falls out of the heavens and into enemy hands, America has only one option: Task Force X, Amanda Waller’s strike team of incarcerated super-criminals. A one-stop-shop for plausibly deniable espionage and ultra- violence, this “Suicide Squad” only handles missions they’re not expected to survive. An insane new era of SUICIDE SQUAD begins here with superstar artist Jim Lee and red-hot writer Rob Williams (UNFOLLOW, MARTIAN MANHUNTER).
JON: If you read my review, you’ll know I found the Suicide Squad Rebirth one-shot to be so-so, mainly due to the art. However, Jim Lee, divisive as he may be, is one of my favorite artists so that’s more than enough reason for me to give this issue a shot.
SUPERF*CKERS FOREVER #1
Writer: James Kochalka
Artist: James Lawrence
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Superf*ckers are back in their first-ever monthly comic-book series! James Kochalka’s loveably profane heroes return in Superf*ckers Forever, an event series like no other!
