One of my personal heroes of 3D Printing is James Bruton, a UK hobiest who has been using his 3D printers to build everything from R6 units, and life-size Hulk Buster costumes. He is currently in the middle of three builds, but surprised many of us today by releasing a nearly complete BB-8 Droid from Star Wars Episode VII.

I am very interested to see if his design comes off and runs and smoothly as the actual practical droid we saw at Star Wars Celebration this week.

BB-8, the totally Practical Effect Ball DroidBB-8 droid from Star Wars: Episode VII live on stage @ Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2015. Created by Neal Scanlan and his team.

Can’t wait to see if James succeeds on this or not. If he does, he’s created a BB-8 Droid for less than $500 in parts and printing supplies. I’m also hopeful he will share the plans for this droid online like he did with his current R6 droid.
