Waves 1 and 2 have already hit the marketplace and there are more DC MiniMates on the way. Wave 6, scheduled to ship in November, features Bizarro, Supergirl, S.T.R.I.P.E., Stargirl, Sgt. Rock and Blackhawk, Battle Damaged Wonder Woman, and Cheetah. Yeah, like I really need more stuff taking up the precious space in my house, but I know I’ll be buying these.
Diamond Select Toys has announced the third figure in the Marvel Zombies toy line will feature the big green guy himself, ready to smash through anything to get to those yummy pink brains. Zombie Hulk is 8-inches high and will feature 14 points of articulation. via Diamond Select Toys (link)
Jeff Smith has posted images of the very first plush Bone doll. The 13 inch toy should be available sometime in July. This is the proto-type, and we took pictures of it yesterday to get ready for the Previews catalog. I’ll have more information later when it we get closer to the order date. via Boneville (link)
Spider-Man 3 is just around the corner and that means toy tie-ins can’t be that far behind. Dark Horse Deluxe, the merchandising division of Dark Horse comics, has announced two new products. First out of the gate is a pair of bookends based on the Mutts syndicated comic strip. The bookends feature Earl and Mooch and are slated for an April release for $99.99. The beautiful image and info on Jimbo, after the jump.
Diamond Select Toys has announced a new line of Minimates based on the Back to the Future Trilogy. Interestingly, the company has decided the first line of figures will be based on the second movie. Huh? Makes no sense what-so-ever, but then again, it’s been shown again and again that time travel messes with our reality. The four figures will include Marty McFly, Doc Brown, Lorraine Baines, Biff Tannen, with chase figures of Marty and Lorraine in their Under the Sea outfits, and a Marty in his 50s clothing. It’s unfortunate that Art Asylum and DST don’t go full out…
As much as I disliked Grant Morrison’s initial run on Batman One Year Later, I love the art done by Adam Kubert. DC Direct is adapting his stylings to a new action figure line inspired by Adam’s recent work on Batman and Superman. In the first series, Batman, Joker, Robin, Damian and Ninja Man-bats are the order of the day, while the Superman series gets Superman, General Zod, Bizzaro and more. Take the jump for the loverly images.
DC has unveiled a new series of figures based on several DC Superheroines, all done in Anime style. First up will be Supergirl, Powergirl, Batgirl, and Catwoman. A shot taken at the booth indicates future figures will include Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, and evil Supergirl. Not sure I like the rendition of the figures, but you can bet fanboys will snatch these figures up to display on their shelves. Manga and Anime are becoming a big deal in the United States, so why not cash in on the trend? Take the jump for the full color images.
Wizard Entertainment has posted images of the first series of DC Unlimited’s World of Warcraft figures coming this Summer. Series 2 will feature a Human Warrior and a Troll Priest. Take the jump for the full sized Blood Elf Rouge. I’m all about the Alliance, but after seeing these images, I may have to change my battle cry to “For the Horde!”.
I told you last week Diamond Select Toys will be releasing toy versions of Marvel’s Zombies series. Major Spoilers has an image of Zombie Spider-Man, but today I found out it won’t be the first figure to hit the streets demanding brains. Zombie Captain America will be released in September ready to use his shield to hack away at his victim’s skulls to get at the pink gooey goodness. Also announced are Minimate Marvel Zombies that will include Zombie Hulk, Cap, Luke Cage, Wolverine and Spider-Man. Take the jump for the horrifying images that are really kind of cute.
DC Comics announced the creation of DC Unlimited yesterday, along with their first line of World of Warcraft action figures. The new brand isn’t stopping with just those figures, announcing today the acquisition to license and release figures based on Afro Samurai the animated series. Afro Samurai collectibles will include fully articulated 6.75″ figures and 14 inch resin busts and statue. The first wave will include Afro Samurai his bad self, sidekick Ninja Ninja, and adversaries Kuma and Justice. These figures are expected to hit comic book and specialty stores this Fall.
I understand that DC Comics needs to diversify, and selling action figures based on their properties seems to be right up its alley. Today the company announced it will diversify even more by licensing and distributing collectibles based on other properties including World of Warcraft. And all of this is going to be done under the company’s new DC Unlimited banner.
