Mandalay Pictures announced it has snatched the big screen movie rights to the Japanese manga series Full Metal Panic. The property derives from writer Shoji Gatoh’s series about a teenage anti-terrorist commando named Sousuke Sagara who is given the mission to protect a high-school girl with mystical powers. Word being passed around is that Zac Efron may play the lead role, meaning the movie could very easily be a live action adaptation instead of animated flick. via THR

Yes, the Friday link baiting worked, as more people continue to discover Major Spoilers through their non-stop searching for all things Megan Fox.  Since we really need to keep this exploitation on topic (just like we did on Friday, right?), here’s a peek of Megan Fox on the set of Jonah Hex.  Granted we don’t know what she’s wearing under that bath robe, the saloon girl boots, garter, and choker, should give you some idea.  Fox plays Leila, a love interest for Josh Brolin’s Hex. More photos over at I Don’t Like You In That Way.

From Rorschach to Freddy Krueger, Jackie Earle Haley is taking on the role of the the gruesome Freddy Krueger in the reboot of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. “Looking at his performance in ‘Watchmen,’ here’s a guy playing a character under a mask yet you feel tremendous empathy for him,” said Bayer of the actor. “And in Nightmare,’ he is going to be under prosthetic make-up. You have to feel something for the character. The greatest villains are multi-dimensional and I think he will bring that to the character.” The movie begins filming May 5, 2009 in Chicago. via…

Oscar nominees Michael Shannon and Will Arnett have both signed up to appear in Warner Bros. adaptation of DC Comics’ Jonah Hex big screen feature. Arnett will play a Union soldier who enlists Hex and is blindsided by the dirty fighting style of his enemies. The role is not inherently comic. Shannon plays Doc Cross Williams, the bizarre ringleader of a brutal gladiator circus event. The character might appear in sequels. Sequels already?  I know studios plan for three movie deals when starting any new property, but in recent years, the western has not been a big box office draw. …

It was a very disturbing zombie comic book, and now Rick Remender hints the mini-series might be headed for the big screen. From his Twitter feed: XXXombies screenplay is almost done… rewritting the story so many times has make it rock solid but I’m really tired of looking at it. Interesting if it is true, as Zombie Strippers did oh, so well in the theater direct to DVD market. via MTV Splash

Even though the J.J. Abrams reboot hasn’t hit theaters yet, Paramount Pictures is already on track with the movie sequel.  The company has hired Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof to write the script.  It looks like Abrams is on board to at least produce the sequel, although there is no word yet if he will direct the picture too. “There’s obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn’t even come out yet,” said Lindelof, co-creator with Abrams of ABC’s “Lost” who produced the upcoming “Trek” but did not…

One of the classic sci-fi stories I would really love to see made into a movie is the John Carter of Mars.  Production has started and stopped so many times, it’s hard to remember who was involved with what.  Iron Man director Jon Favreau was involved in the movie at one point, and offered up a shot of Woola (the dog like creature from the series) that was whipped up during that time. If audiences can put up with a naked Dr. Manhattan running around for two hours, than bare breasted beauties from Mars and John Carter wang shouldn’t be…

From comic to feature film to animated short story, screenwriter Alex Tse has played an essential role in helping transition WATCHMEN beyond its initial incarnation. Ironically, when it came to bringing the graphic novel’s classic story-within-a-story, WATCHMEN: TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER, Tse wrote the screenplay without knowing what that final incarnation would be.
