As a longtime fan of Marvel’s Ghost Rider, I was naturally intrigued some years ago when they announced a film adaptation of his adventures. The resulting movie cast an actor far too old for the role (in the name of marquee value) and had some strange issues with plot & pacing, but was overall kind of mundane, the last thing one would expect from a film about a flaming skeleton on a motorcycle. That said, I still might enjoy a weekly series with Johnny Blaze riding the highway and having adventures ala ‘Supernatural’, which leads to today’s incendiary query… The…
Following the BREAD model introduced in the last episode will take you a long way as a beginning drafter, but there are a few more important considerations, and knowing when to commit to your deck’s colors is one of them.
When I was younger, I always wanted t-shirts with my favorite hero symbols on them, especially The Flash, but they were never available. Ironically, as I have aged, such products have become more and more common, but were too expensive when I was broke in college, and too small for me to wear once I reached an age where I had money. (This phenomenon is known as the middle-class fortyish fat guy’s lament.) Still, these days, even a man of my girth has access to Superman, Green Lantern and Flash merchandise, a veritable plethora of options, which then leads me…

As someone who lived through the dark days of ‘Doctor Who’ fandom (from 1989 to approximately 2004, with a couple of bright spots around 1996 and elsewhere), it’s gratifying to see so many people identifying themselves as Whovians these days, whether I care for the term or not. Of course, given that the series is about time-travel, alternate dimensions and mindscrew, featuring a main character who changes appearance occasionally in his 2,000 year lifespan, it’s a given that there are many different camps about what era of Doctor Who is best. Could it be Tom Baker, the longest-serving Doctor? Or…
This weekend is the debut of Michael Bay’s reworking of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as hulking CGI creatures, and while I haven’t heard an overwhelming majority speak, I admit to an enjoyment of some of the vehemently negative reviews of the flick. As one who enjoyed both the cartoon and movie TMNT back in the 90s, though, I don’t have a lot of room to talk, as neither version was all that true to the original incarnation. What’s hard to remember is that even the mighty Justice League Of America was a revamp, a reworking of the Golden Age…
