Or – “More Colons Than Your Average Proctologist…” One of the only missteps of the whole Dark Reign crossover, for me, has been the characterization of Clint Barton, the hero now known as Ronin.  As Hawkeye, he was willing to leave his beloved wife over the implication that she even ALLOWED someone to die, much less committed murder, and now he’s willing to kill Norman Osborn to prove a point?  It’s an odd change of characterization for me, which makes the whole thing questionable.  What’s the Marvel equivalent of a Tom Welling Prime punch?

With all the news that has been going on with Disney buying Marvel Comics, I thought that it would be nice to take a look at some of the Disney books that have been put out recently by Boom! Kids, who currently hold the license for several Disney and Pixar Books.  With Victoria recently reviewing the first issue of Monster’s Inc, and Stephen having reviewed the first issue of The Incredibles: Family Matters, I thought that I would take the time to review Finding Nemo: Reef Rescue #3, which was release September 10th at comic stores everywhere. Did the issue…

At the recent Wizard World Philadelphia convention (which took place this past June) there was a particular cosplayer getting an enormous amount of attention and upon laying eyes on him, it was easy to see why. With his tailored purple suit, white makeup and sly grin it looked as if The Joker had sprung to life from Batman: The Animated Series. It’s easy to say that he was a big hit among those attending the con to the point that people were lining up and taking turns to be photographed with him. Fast forward three months later and I stumbled…

Mark’s return to the Ultimates was well trailed by the Marvel publicity department and everyone was expecting big things from the titles original scribe. Well nobody can say that he has run out of ideas in his time away from his onetime signature book because we are only two issues into the new run and already the direction this comic is going to take is starting to become clear. It’s all about close family members and their unlimited capacity to cause emotional and physical harm.

When I walked into the comic shop last week and saw Red Tornado #1, I was rather surprised. Here was a character that I always saw in a supporting role and not really as the front and center headline type. He had been a big part of the Justice League of my early youth, was the mentor for Young Justice, and had recently been a pretty important player in some modern Justice League of America storylines.  I remembered reading the issue of Crisis on Infinite Earths where he became an elemental, as well as never being able to find a…

Or -“Want To Know How To Maximize Profitability?” How about a cover featuring not ONE, but TWO Wolverine cameos, while simultaneously containing no Wolverine at all?  It’s sort of like the state of having Tea and No Tea at the same time, causing the universe to implode…  That’s deep, Ogre.

There are some interesting things afoot in the land of comics and parent companies today (UPDATE: It’s official now), and it could potentially be much bigger than the Marvel/Disney deal talked about last week.  I’ve been Twittering about it this morning, but it occurred to me that there are many who may not be taking part of the full Major Spoilers Experience. The Beatles. Love them or hate them, no one can deny that they are a worldwide phenomenon. Their music – and their real-life personalities – has integrated themselves into everyday life, for better or worse. Every few years it seems that, for whatever reason, the Beatles come back from pseudo-semi-obscurity and reclaim the attention of the mass media. This year is no different. Their return to fame this time around comes in the form of a new video game, aptly titled The Beatles: Rock Band. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? Also being released are the completely re-mastered editions of all…

“Will he save the west–or ruin it?” That was the tag line that was used in various DC Comics house adds back in 1968, and they heralded the coming of the western hero known as Bat Lash. His first appearance in a story was in Showcase Presents #76 from 1968 and quickly graduated to his won title that same year. He is one of the most unique of DC’s western heroes and his early western adventures where recently reprinted in the current Showcase Presents format. How do the early adventures of Bat Lash stand up, over forty years later? Let’s…

I am reading the news that the Boom Studios comic Irredeemable #6 has gone back to press for a second printing. To be honest, I have been away from comics for a while and some things have slipped past me in the last year or so, this being one of them.  With a little research and a nice internet connection, I quickly found out that this was a series that I wanted to read. Reason number one: the writer. I’ve enjoyed the work of Mark Waid since the days of The Comet for DC’s Impact Imprint. I enjoyed his spectacular…
