This May will see the debut of DC Comics’ new Minx line. DC is confident enough in the line it is offering retailers full returnability of The Plain Janes – providing they meet certain qualifications. There are several different breakdown scenarios, but is runs something like this; if a retailer with a 50% DC Comics discount orders a minimum of 4 copies of The Plain Janes, it will qualify for full returnability. This offer is only good through the final cut off date of March 8, 2007.

Or – “Oh, THAT Cancellation Notice!” Well, heck, that didn’t last very long. The little book that could has apparently been cancelled again. Initially canned with #25, Manhunter was given a repreive after a tideswell of fan response, and granted another 5 issues. The word out of DC is that this arc is the end for Kate Spencer’s solo book (though she did join the Birds of Prey in issue #100) and I only hope that we’ll get some closure for Mark Shaw, for Cameron Chase, even for Kate’s long-suffering tech wizard Dylan. This issue progresses storylines, has several surprises,…
Or – “Crisis On Earth-Whichever-One-Is-Left-Now!” As a fan of old-school superheroics, it’s always interesting to me which characters get chosen for revamps and which do not. The return of the Freedom Fighters in 1973 probably didn’t make a lot of sense to the readers of the time, as their original incarnations from Quality Comics hadn’t been seen in 25 years. When their own series tanked, they were pretty much used only as background characters, until the newest incarnation of the team was brutally killed in Infinite Crisis. I chalked up their appearance there as doing two things: killing off a…
Here’s your sneak peek of DC Comics’ The Helmet of Fate: Ibis the Invincible. The three page preview continues the Helmet of Fate storyline and gives us another glimpse into who may wear the gold helm.
Booster Gold Returns! As much as I have loved reading 52 and making speculations throughout, it is often good know at least one of my wild speculations have paid off. This week offers three big reveals that are really not that big of a surprise if you have been following closely. The first is a no-brainer (look at the subhead), the second is a relief, and the third has been sitting in front of your face for at least six months. If you don’t like Major Spoilers, turn back now!
Warner Bros, the CW Network, and Sprint have joined forces to create a six part animated mini-series based on characters from the television series Smallville. Premiering on the Sprint TV mobile service, Smallville Legends: The Oliver Queen Chronicles tells the tale of how Oliver Queen became the Green Arrow. The first episode debuted last night (January 18, 2007), and after the Sprint exclusive window closes, fans will be able to view the series on the CW website (www.CWTV.com).
Or – “Time, Time, Time… See What’s Become Of Me…” Okay, somewhere along the line I lost track of how many hours there were in a day. I felt certain that there were 24, but somehow no matter how many things I get done, five or six more end up falling by the wayside. Usually those involve bills, or buying pull-ups for little Molly, but somehow, I completely forgot to review Birds of Prey #101. I blame Dan Didio, actually. It seems like this book comes out more often than other comics (which these days probably means monthly) so we’re…
Or – “Like Good Golf, It’s All In The Follow-Through…” I admit it. I picked up Nightwing #125 out of tri-fold curiosity: First, to see Wolfman back on the character he pioneered. Second, to see if the rather terrible Bruce Jones run had damaged the character beyond repair. And third, because I figured that reviewing only titles that I already read and loved would lead to some seriously boring reviews. The first arc concludes here, which gives me the exact opposite of a “perfect jumping on point,” as Previews would call it. As The Clash so eloquently put it, should…

DC Comics has provided Major Spoilers with cover images and title solicitation for titles and products shipping in April 2007. If you are a fan of 52 and want to know what is up with that whole World War III thing, you’ll want to take the jump and find out for yourself. This month also features the debut of the Minx line. Minx THE PLAIN JANES Written by Cecil Castellucci Art and cover by Jim Rugg When a transfer student named Jane is forced to move from the cool confines of Metro City to Suburbia, she thinks her life is…
Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Sun Eaters Week 36 is one of those weeks where a lot of questions get partial answers, a hero falls, and Supernova is Ray Palmer. It can’t be that simple, can it? You guessed it. Major Spoilers ahead…
Jeff Smith has updated his blog to include sketches and images of the very young Mary Marvel from the upcoming DC Comics Shazam! Monster Society of Evil mini-series. This is one series I can’t wait to pick up. Smith’s artwork rocks, and I’m becoming more and more of a Shazam fan each day. Shazam! Monster Society of Evil #1 hits stands February 7, 2007. via Jeff Smith (link)
Or – “Too Much Of A Good Thing?” Sarge Steel. Detective Chimp. Mister Terrific. Fire. Mademoiselle Marie. Plus two pages of strippers, and huge movie-blockbuster-style firefight and a surprising addition to the regular cast. This book is packed with geekout moments, intrigue, even a way cool cover that pops off the racks and tells you to shaddup and buy it. With all that going for it, there’s really no reason why I haven’t been able to sit down, concentrate, and review this book. So why haven’t I done it before now?
