According to the Wall Street Journal, Katie Holmes will not be back in The Dark Knight. “We never got to the negotiating stage” for the film, said Julie Polkes, Holmes’ representative. “Katie was offered [“Dark Knight”] but was unable to accept the role because of scheduling conflicts. She was in the process of negotiating for another project.” Instead of a multi-million dollar sequel, what is a young starlet to do? This little bit from Variety should make your head spin: Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes are in talks to star in “Mad Money,” a pic to be directed by “Thelma…

DC Comics will be giving away two very good titles for Free Comic Book Day 2007. First up is The Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century #1. This is the all-ages Johnny DC series spun off from the Kids WB animated series. This will be a 32-page book written by J Torres, with art by Chynna Clugston-Flores. The other issue is Justice League of America #0. This is an issue you will want to get for free as it tels the story of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman putting the League back together following the events of Infinite Crisis.…

This May will see the debut of DC Comics’ new Minx line. DC is confident enough in the line it is offering retailers full returnability of The Plain Janes – providing they meet certain qualifications. There are several different breakdown scenarios, but is runs something like this; if a retailer with a 50% DC Comics discount orders a minimum of 4 copies of The Plain Janes, it will qualify for full returnability. This offer is only good through the final cut off date of March 8, 2007.

Or – “Oh, THAT Cancellation Notice!” Well, heck, that didn’t last very long.  The little book that could has apparently been cancelled again.  Initially canned with #25, Manhunter was given a repreive after a tideswell of fan response, and granted another 5 issues.  The word out of DC is that this arc is the end for Kate Spencer’s solo book (though she did join the Birds of Prey in issue #100) and I only hope that we’ll get some closure for Mark Shaw, for Cameron Chase, even for Kate’s long-suffering tech wizard Dylan.  This issue progresses storylines, has several surprises,…

Or – “Crisis On Earth-Whichever-One-Is-Left-Now!” As a fan of old-school superheroics, it’s always interesting to me which characters get chosen for revamps and which do not. The return of the Freedom Fighters in 1973 probably didn’t make a lot of sense to the readers of the time, as their original incarnations from Quality Comics hadn’t been seen in 25 years. When their own series tanked, they were pretty much used only as background characters, until the newest incarnation of the team was brutally killed in Infinite Crisis. I chalked up their appearance there as doing two things: killing off a…

Booster Gold Returns! As much as I have loved reading 52 and making speculations throughout, it is often good know at least one of my wild speculations have paid off. This week offers three big reveals that are really not that big of a surprise if you have been following closely. The first is a no-brainer (look at the subhead), the second is a relief, and the third has been sitting in front of your face for at least six months. If you don’t like Major Spoilers, turn back now!

Or – “Time, Time, Time… See What’s Become Of Me…” Okay, somewhere along the line I lost track of how many hours there were in a day. I felt certain that there were 24, but somehow no matter how many things I get done, five or six more end up falling by the wayside. Usually those involve bills, or buying pull-ups for little Molly, but somehow, I completely forgot to review Birds of Prey #101. I blame Dan Didio, actually. It seems like this book comes out more often than other comics (which these days probably means monthly) so we’re…

Or – “Like Good Golf, It’s All In The Follow-Through…” I admit it. I picked up Nightwing #125 out of tri-fold curiosity: First, to see Wolfman back on the character he pioneered. Second, to see if the rather terrible Bruce Jones run had damaged the character beyond repair. And third, because I figured that reviewing only titles that I already read and loved would lead to some seriously boring reviews. The first arc concludes here, which gives me the exact opposite of a “perfect jumping on point,” as Previews would call it. As The Clash so eloquently put it, should…
