Or – “Aren’t EVERYONE’S Siblings Out Of Their Minds?” The second issue of Justice Society of America featured the Heywood family reunion, a function that has been attended by two generations of superheroes (with a third on the way). From a comic book standpoint, the Commanders Steel have it easy. Can you imagine a Mar-Vell family reunion? Or a Stark family reunion? (Seems like every four or five years, somebody comes out of the woodwork to steal Tony’s company out from under him, so you know there’s more of ’em out there…) Now, imagine Christmas dinner at the Ranzz household,…

Just when you think you have a spare moment to sit down and write a well thought out review, some little thing you place in the back of your mind and forgot about pops up demanding attention. Thus I missed last week’s 52 review, but I’m making up for it now. Maybe I should have made this a Major Spoilers Retro Review…

This is going to be a big month for DC fans. First, 52 is over and the fallout can begin. Remember that strange image DC sent us a couple of weeks ago that hinted at the future of the DCU? Did you notice Batman was wearing some strange pirate/Arabic costume? Batman #666 looks like it reveals the tie between that mysterious DC image and the Bat. Also, check out the JSA/JLA crossover titles that were the hallmark of the Multiple Earth series from days of old. Second, May will be a month of direct figures from DC Unlimited including the…

As much as I disliked Grant Morrison’s initial run on Batman One Year Later, I love the art done by Adam Kubert. DC Direct is adapting his stylings to a new action figure line inspired by Adam’s recent work on Batman and Superman. In the first series, Batman, Joker, Robin, Damian and Ninja Man-bats are the order of the day, while the Superman series gets Superman, General Zod, Bizzaro and more. Take the jump for the loverly images.

Oh god, here’s a flashback to my high school days. Getting to see Superboy was hit and miss for me because a) the local channel kept bouncing it around the time slot clock b) I lived in the middle of nowhere and the aerial antenna didn’t always pick up the channel in question. Thankful I can relive my childhood with the help of  YouTube.

Fans of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys, which was recently dropped by Wildstorm, has been picked up by Dynamite Entertainment. The series had a strong fan base (27,039 copies sold in North America in December), so why did DC drop the book? The company isn’t commenting, but certain hardcore hamster-lovin’ content may have had something to do with it. Even though the series is creator owned, DC could have c-blocked the title from moving to any other publisher, but I praise the company for making the transition to Dynamite a smooth one. Reports have Dynamite working out the…

I understand that DC Comics needs to diversify, and selling action figures based on their properties seems to be right up its alley. Today the company announced it will diversify even more by licensing and distributing collectibles based on other properties including World of Warcraft. And all of this is going to be done under the company’s new DC Unlimited banner.

Rumors circulated widely earlier this week when Joel Shumacher mentioned in an interview he would love to direct the Neil Gaiman Sandman movie. After seeing what the man did to Batman, it would have been a huge mistake to give a Shumacher driven Sandman a green light. Well there is good news – as far as Neil Gaiman is concerned. I remember about eight years ago the then Warner Brothers co-studio head Billy Gerber told me that he got weekly calls from people who wanted to make, direct or star in a Sandman film. “On Wednesday,” he said, “Michael Jackson…

I love a week when I have so many sneak peeks coming in that I can do bonus editions from each of the companies. This week DC Comics is on the Good List by dropping off previews for Batman #663, Justice Society of America #3, Tales of the Unexpected #5, and Y: The Last Man. Damn that’s a lot of previews.

Or – “The Chimp’s Got It Figured Out…” It’s actually quite heartening to see Checkmate hitting double-digits. It’s not precisely the kind of book you normally get from DC, an attempt at a hard-hitting spy-style drama, with the added difficulty of being set within the confines of a world where every thirteenth person gets phenomenal cosmic power with the purchase of a Big Gulp at 7-11. This issue actually takes that proverbial bull by the horns, trying to streamline the Shadowpact (a team consisting of a talking chimpanzee, a interdimensional teleporter, a cloth Golem, an azure demon, a sorceress of…

As Major Spoilers reported yesterday David (Batman Begins) Goyer is out on The Flash movie from Warner. Who is replacing him? Shawn Levy has stepped on board to direct the flick. Now let’s take a look at Levy’s track record for films. Most recently he directed Night at the Museum which made it to number one at the box office (during a time that is generally dead for major releases). Levy also directed Cheaper by the Dozen and The Pink Panther. Does this mean we’ll be seeing Steve Martin don the red tights? Levy has no intention of making “Flash”…

David Goyer has announced he is off The Flash movie. WTF DC!? Did you not pay attention to what Goyer did with Batman Begins? That’s Hollywood Gold Baby! I am sad to say that my version of The Flash is dead at WB. The God’s honest truth is that WB and myself simply couldn’t agree on what would make for a cool Flash film. I’m quite proud of the screenplay I turned in. I threw my heart into it and I genuinely think it would’ve been the basis of a ground-breaking film. But as of now, the studio is heading…
