The Wall Street Journal has a good article outlining H’wood’s big drive to turn popular toy properties into movies. The craze for toy-driven feature films has given rise to a new term in the Hollywood lexicon. In production meetings, studio executives have begun asking if a particular project is “toyetic” — meaning whether its concept can lend itself to a toy, and whether the project will be able to sell tickets and merchandise. Toward the end of the article, the next big toy to movie announcement is made.  Hasbro recently acquired the rights to the Micronauts, and is looking at…

If you are a fan of the NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures, which were modeled after the original Eastman and Laird comics, you’re probably going to be a little upset over the news that Playmates will now be the exclusive creator of TMNT toys.  It all has to do with a new deal struck between Playmates and Nickelodeon, the new owners of the sewer dwelling ninjas. “We are very excited about our new partnership with Nickelodeon, which broadens the scope of creative inspiration for Playmates,” said Lou Novak, President, Playmates Toys. I’m pretty sure we’ve run the images from Mattel’s DC Universe Collection wave 9 before, but we’re running them again, simply because I find the Chemo collect and connect figure so fascinating.  I’ve had a devil of a time with the entire collect and connect series, as I don’t think I’ve been able to complete a single figure – THANKS TARGET! I’m going to have to go eBay diving over the next couple of weeks to find all the back issue figures and parts, because I have completionism OCD, and also because these are pretty awesome figures. Take the jump…
