Twentieth Century Fox has announced May 1, 2009 will be the release date for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie will center around Wolverine’s past with Victor Creed and the Weapon X program as well as his interactions with other mutants. “Wolverine” is expected to feature many other mutants — some new to the film franchise and some from one or more of the three “X-Men” films. Getting the greenlight for a pilot a month ago, Viper Comics’ Middleman graphic novel now has a couple of stars – Matt Keeslar and Natalie Morales. “Middleman” centers on Wendy Watson (Morales), a twentysomething struggling artist recruited by a secret agency to fight comic book-type villains. Keeslar will play the title character, a sci-fi superhero who serves as her guide. Gleason will play Ida, the robotic gatekeeper and veteran assistant to Keeslar. Sam Raimi gave an update on the film. “Right now, Sony is meeting with different writers to try and bring a fresh new story and approach to the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise,” Raimi told us, “so I’ve been in meetings with Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, the producers, and Amy Pascal. George Lucas announced yesterday he is planning on bringing the Star Wars franchise to a live action television series soon. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Lucas said he was just beginning work, but did say the series will feature minor characters from the movies and will not feature any of the Skywalker clan. This shouldn’t be confused with the animated series Lucas is also working on called Star Wars: The Clone Wars. via Variety
