Now this is more like it I don’t know what happened in the second part of that two-part crossover issue that began in Invincible #57, and frankly, I don’t care.   What I do care about is the intricate universe Robert Kirkman has created in Invincible and the myriad of characters in it.  The latest issue returns readers to the good ol’ days of a young superhero and all the people in it.

Details are beginning to emerge on the settlement between Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox over the Watchmen movie. The film will still open on March 6 Warner Bros. will pay between $5 million and $10 million in the $1.4 development fees Fox claims it invested in the movie when it had the rights. The rest of that load will cover the legal fees. Fox gets a percentage of gross sales – somewhere between 5% and 8.5%. Fox also gets a percentage of gross for any sequels or spinoffs. I don’t know if that includes video game revenu or not.…

Marvel has a new viral campaign going for its cosmic Secret Invasion followup, War of Kings.  The company released several banners for fans to put on their websites to promote the issue and to promote their own inner geek. The Death of Batman of Earth Prime (or Zur-En-Arrh, we don’t know which, but does it really matter?) Two years ago, we were teased with the promise that Legends Live Forever (not a Queen lyric by the way) – even if they get killed in the process.  As you might have already heard, Batman finally dies in this issue, but as always, it is getting there that is the most infuriating.  Or is it half the fun?  In any case Final Crisis #6 is here and the death of Earth is upon us.

Yes, it does involve a great deal of money.  Yes, Fox now does get a sizable chunk of the box office receipts in addition to a big pile of rolling around in cash.  No, Fox does not own any portion of Watchmen going forward.  Yes, Producer Larry Gordon is in a heap of deep at the moment, as it looks like Warner Bros. will be targeting him for reimbursement for the company’s payout to Fox. Amazing Spider-Man wasn’t the only sold out title this week.  DC Comics has announced Final Crisis #6 will go back to press for a second printing. FINAL CRISIS #6 Second Printing (NOV088149) features a pencils-only version of Doug Mahnke’s art from the final page of this issue. The new printing is scheduled to arrive in stores on January 28, the same day as FINAL CRISIS #7. Please note that this issue has a special Final Order Cutoff date of Sunday, January 18.
