Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? For almost two years I’ve been greatly saddened by the carnage going on in the pages of Batman, as obscure moments from Batman’s 70-year history were brought forward to weave a tale almost as confusing trying to navigate the inner workings of a clockwork motor. When readers were presented with the “shocking conclusion†to RIP – namely that Batman was dead and not dead, it lead to the question, Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?

Batman #686 hit stores today, and instantly caused many retailers to raise the alarm over the use of language in the issue. While we’ve all be treated to the goddamn Batman in All-Star Batman and Robin, the Frank Miller tale didn’t carry the Comic Code Authority stamp on the cover. Batman #686 does. The revision to the CCA in 1989 specifically states The language in a comic book will be appropriate for a mass audience that includes children. Good grammar and spelling will be encouraged. Publishers will exercise good taste and a responsible attitude as to the use of language…
I’ve picked up a few of the Mighty Mugg figures over the last year or so, and they are pretty neat. Hasbro has unveiled the latest X-Men Mighty Muggs featuring Wolverine, Sabertooth, Pheonix, and Cyclops. Of the four, I’ll probably pick up the Cyclops figure, as Jean Grey is just a little weird looking. via Hasbro
In yet another attempt to do the least work possible, ABC has approved a pilot ripping off retelling redoing the British ITV series No Heroics. If you’ve had the opportunity to catch the original series, it is quite funny as it showcases a group of superheroes who hang out in a bar after hours and have interesting exchanges. The list of international television shows that have been redone for American television is simply staggering, and I wonder what would happen if ABC simply gave No Heroics in its original form a chance on American TV. Obviously there are some issues…

Dark Reign and the Marvel Noir events have been doing quite well for Marvel, as the company announced three of its titles have sold out at the distributor level. The first is X-Men Noir #3, featuring the team of Fred Van Lente and Dennnis Calero. While Marvel says it has no plans to go back to press on this issue, the company’s record for reprints indicates you’ll see something eventually.

In this issue: It’s a cartoon wonderland, as we seek out braveness, boldity, heroism, and truthiness! Wolverine leads the X-Men (hopefully they don’t go into battle in a giant koala pouch!) New York Comicon! The Devil made Slick do it, at least as far as you know. And the Legion of Super-Heroes goes quietly into that good night… Again.
