Star Wars Celebration London is going full force on the first day with a number of major announcements, including wrapping up The Mandalorian arc, another movie with Rey, and a ton of teasers for upcoming Star Wars shows on Disney+.
Lucasfilm revealed on Friday that there is not one new Star Wars movie coming our way, but THREE! The first two will be directed by Dave Filoni and James Mangold, and according to sources, will wrap up the New Republic arc by bringing in threads from The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka. This should be interesting as Dave Filoni is one of the two big minds behind all things Star Wars, and James Mangold has knocked it out of the park with his more recent projects. Kathleen Kennedy shared Mangold’s film will focus on the dawn of the Jedi, but she didn’t share if this would be tied into the mega-story arc of the High Republic that floated through comics, books, and other media outlets over the last few years, or if it would go back even further.
As far as the news that Daisy Ridley returning as Rey, the word out of London is the movie will follow Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order. Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders fame is writing the script, with Canadian journalist and filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy set to direct. She is the first woman, and first person of color to direct a Star Wars movie.
Earlier this morning, Lucasfilm released the first trailer for Ahsoka.

Kennedy and the cast of The Acolyte were also present at the event. The first four episodes of the show have been shot and completed, and fans at the convention were able to see the trailer for the show. Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-Jae star in the show set during the High Republic era – 100 years before the events of A New Hope. The series is being pitched as Frozen meets Kill Bill, which has this writer excited to see how this plays out, especially if we are seeing the emergence of the Sith in this series.
The Acolyte is expected to arrive sometime in 2024.
Fans were also treated to word about season 2 of Andor, starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor. Shooting began in November, and according to the creator, co-writer, and executive producer Tony Gilroy, the principle production should wrap in August, with the next season expected to arrive in August 2024.
According to Variety, season 2 footage revealed at the event showed Mon Mothma trying to rally a rebellion. Villain Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) also seems to have a bigger role in the show. Meanwhile, Luna’s Cassian Andor was shown with a new hairdo. Season 2 introduces a number of new characters.
The 12-episode season will take place over four years, leading up to the events of Rogue One.
Lucasfilm also previewed Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the new series which focuses on a group of kids and Jude Law navigating the post Return of the Jedi landscape. One of the most interesting things about Skeleton Crew is the Daniels – of Everything, Everywhere, All At Once fame – will be directing at least one episode in the series.
