Recasting, a common practice for nearly as long as live-action pop culture has been around, has long had a bad reputation. From the phenomenon of the ‘Fake Shemp‘ to the second Captain Marvel to Terence Howard being replaced by Don Cheadle, many characters have actually had multiple actors. For my part, some recasting makes for a better show (like Caity Lotz taking over the role of Sara Lance in ‘Arrow’), some for a weirder one (like the time WWE tried to pawn off new wrestlers as Diesel and Razor Ramon) and some had no effect at all (See: Dick York/Dick Sargent.) But which one worked the BEST of all is a question for the ages, leading us to today’s Other Darrin query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) reminds Spoilerites that a recast due to an actor’s health is actually the basis for the longevity of one of the best science fiction programs of them all, Doctor Who’, asking: What’s the MOST successful example of recasting in TV/movie history?

I make my own rules: Chris Evans from Human Torch to Captain America. Changed not only the role, but movie studio too. Double recast switcharoo.
I’ll allow it!
Mark Ruffalo was so great as Bruce Banner / Hulk that some people forget that the the Ed Norton Hulk movie is actually part of the MCU.
Good point!
