My friend Otter Disaster once likened Ted Mosby, the protagonist of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ to Ross, if ‘Friends’ had been all about him. It’s a fair cop, as they’re both pretty terrible people on multiple levels. Then again, many sitcom protagonists are utterly irredeemable people: Jerry Seinfeld, John Dorian, Sam Malone. The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) thinks that Raymond from ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ has to be at the top of my list, as he’s surrounded by terrible, off-putting characterizations, and still stands out as just awful, asking: Who’s the most terrible sitcom protagonist?
