In the modern remix/mash-up culture, there’s a lot of ways to honor your influences. Sometimes you reference them metatexually, sometimes you openly homage characters, stories and situations from the comics that come before, and sometimes creators just do the same story again, not mentioning any names called Civil War II. Heck, much of the new DC Age of Heroes seems like DC doing their take on Marvel characters and stories: Damage feels Hulky, The Terrifics is Fantastic Four-inspires, Sideways seems evocative of Spider-Man. On the one hand, part of me feels there are moral issues with some homages, and then I remember the quality of books like ‘Planetary’, ‘Watchmen’ and ‘League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen,’ leading us to today’s referential query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) kinda misses the old days when they just called ’em swipes, asking: What’s your favorite pop-culture homage?

The Orville. The best Star Trek series since Voyager.
Akiba’s Trip The Animation. Its a comedy/action animation and every single one of its 13 episodes is dedicated to one aspect of geeky hobbies: We got Audio equipment, fighting video games, pro wrestling, card games, etc.
A tie between Gokaiger and Akibaranger, as both paid tribute to the history of Super Sentai in fairly obvious ways.
+1 Orville.
(+2 against Meowmeowbeenz.)
