Brian Michael Bendis has been writing for Marvel for a long time – nearly 18 years by my calculations, and he can be credited for getting back into Spider-Man with his Ultimate Spider-Man. Now Bendis is switching sides, and is leaving the House of Ideas for DC Comics.
The announcement came via the DC Comics Twitter feed (though I expect a full press release is coming soon).

And in case you have looked at your calendar multiple times, scratching your head wondering if this is an April Fool’s joke, Bendis did confirm the announcement in his own Tweet (apparently that is how business is done these days), stating, “Change is good.”
This is real. I love you all. Change is good. Change is healthy. I am bursting with ideas and inspirations. Details to come! Stay tuned! https://t.co/S1x5JDmGTt

Why the sudden move, beyond “Change is good?” If I had to put my non-business half conspiratorial hat on, I would say it has to do with Geoff Johns move to more television and movie things, freeing up a hole at DC Comics for a writer who likes to shake things up and give a new perspective on things. Again, just a gut reaction with no real science behind that statement.
There are so many questions fans, reporters, and pundits have right now. If this were something that had been planned for a while, an announcement would have been made months ago, at a certain major comic book convention (or even weeks ago at the NYCC). So something has prompted Bendis to make the move rather quickly. Of course the lure of writing/rebooting/retelling some of the world’s biggest non-Marvel characters (and a big paycheck), may have something to do with it as well.
What are your thoughts and reactions? Is change good? Do you feel betrayed by the move? What are you looking forward to the most/least? Use the comment section below to share your thoughts.

Given his output from Marvel recently, that’s gonna be a big fat no from me.
The timing has to make one wonder if he walked away or he was pushed.
I’ve always been Team Marvel and I’m an unapologetic Bendis fan. As much as I’m gobsmacked by the news, it’ll be cool to see him play with some new toys. A Bendis/Maleev Batman? Come on, who wouldn’t want an epic noirish run in the vein of Daredevil?
