Then, meet the newest speed trap in Ghost Rider’s life as his original creators Felipe Smith and Tradd Moore reunite for a special backup story and the debut of an all-new villain.
ETIENNE: I really liked the first arc of this version of Ghost Rider from last year however the second arc after the artist change was simply awful. Well, the cover of this issue already has me sold, and I am really fired up for a return to form.
GRIMM FAIRY TALES: RED AGENT: HUMAN ORDER #1
Writer: Lou Iovino
Artist: Wilton Santos and Marc Rosete
Publisher: Zenescope Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99 USD
SOLICITATION: The world has become a dangerous place. Highborn’s and monsters from the Realms of Power hide in plain sight. Now the world’s leaders are looking to exploit their powers for their own gain, using them as spies and assassins for covert missions. But the Highborn initiative is there to balance the scales with their own group of super powered spies. Led by Britney Waters, better known now as the Red Agent, her team travels the world battling the forces of evil that lurks in the shadowy world of espionage and secret intelligence.
ETIENNE: Zenescope completely re-wrote their universe with the end of the Apocalypse series and with the death of some of their biggest characters, it gave space for others to come to the fore. Red has always been a middle ranking character, not big enough to support her own ongoing series, but with the odd mini here and there so it will be really interesting to see what happens with her first 12 issue series.
JUGHEAD #11
Writer: Ryan North
Artist: Derek Charm
Publisher: Archie Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In our last issue, a disastrous date causes Sabrina to curse Jughead and take her revenge! Guess what? In this issue, this is still a thing! The mysterious Sabrina reveals what her entire deal is! And let’s say the not-at-all mysterious Jughead reveals something too! (It’s whether or not he still likes burgers) (he does) Conflict! Burgers! Jokes! All mixed together in a recipe so delightful that we could only call it “Conflict Burger Jokes #1”!! Never mind, I just got word we’re calling it “Jughead #11.” That works, too.
MATTHEW: This book continues to be almost shockingly fun, and the addition of Sabrina takes it up to (you should excuse the expression) eleven…
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #10
Writer: Bryan Hitch
Artist: Daniel Henriques
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The League members in the ancient past catch up with those in the present, and the whole future is at stake! The League thought they had beaten Rao, at great personal cost, but his final solution for the people of Earth is far more than even The League can stand against.
WAYNE: A dollar more, should be worth it!
NEW TALENT SHOWCASE #1
Writer: Vita Ayala, Emma Beeby, Joelle Jones, Hena Khan, Michael McMillain, Michael Moreci, Erica Schultz, Christoper Sebela, Adam Smith
Artist: Barnaby Bagenda, Juan Ferreyra, Sonny Liew, David Messina, Khary Randolph
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $7.99
SOLICITATION: In this new one-shot, Wonder Woman unleashes her true god of war against a parade of monsters! Superman discovers a new threat that might be bigger and badder than the joker himself! Hawkgirl solves crimes in the weird weapons unit for the GCPD! Carol Ferris and Kyle Rayner fight about ice cream in space! You’ll find all of this and so much more in NEW TALENT SHOWCASE #1, where recent graduate writers from the inaugural DC Talent Development workshop showcase some of their strongest work yet! See what they’ve learned from masters of the craft Scott Snyder, Jim Lee and Klaus Janson.
MATTHEW: I am old enough to remember the first version of this book, and while it was a mixed bag, I’m interested in seeing what DC has up its sleeve these days…
WAYNE: Wow, a lot of names I’ve never heard doing DC before! VERY interested here!
STARGATE ATLANTIS GATEWAYS #1
Writer: J. C Vaughn
Artist: Scottie Watson
Publisher: American Mythology Productions
Cover Price: $3.99 USD
SOLICITATION: Stargate Atlantis returns with another brand-new story continuing the adventure of the classic sci-fi television show in comics! Picking up right where the TV series left off, this new arc continues the breath-taking events of STARGATE ATLANTIS: BACK TO PEGASUS! The team is faced with danger at virtually every turn as Janus forces the immediate evacuation of Atlantis from Earth, which throws the city into chaos and sets in motion a deadly, new chain of events.
ETIENNE: I have been a huge fan of Stargate ever since the first film back in the 90’s. I never really appreciated Atlantis until after it was cancelled, then I realised how much I missed it with the hideous failure of Universe. Well now it is back in comic form, perhaps I can appreciate it from the start. However, if the cover art is anything to by, I am setting myself up for a horrible fall.
WACKY RACELAND #6 (of 6)
Writer: Ken Pontac
Artist: Leonardo Manco
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: At last, the Racers storm the high-tech facility known as the Butcher Shop and confront the all-powerful Announcer! Secrets from the past are revealed, bullets fly and engines roar as our heroes contend against the entity that has put them through their torturous paces for months. Will the Racers get the answers they seek, or die in the attempt? Maybe both!
MATTHEW: This has been a super-weird book, but in a really twisted and interesting way, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it wraps up…
